Re: Antibiotic alternatives

She is still looking a bit sad, but then so would I in this chilly wind! Last time she was like this she had a foot infection. She is about to get the full VIP treatment....a gentle inspection followed by a left over baked potato and butter, a sprinkle of mealworms garnished with fresh oregano. She ...

Re: picked on lady

I have a chicken that is last in the pecking order and it is upsetting. As they are still settling in it does sound like the order is still being established as all attention is focussed on the weaker one. Is it possible to work out who is in charge? I remember with mine it was a bit like follow my ...

Hi everyone, Browsing the internet today I came across oregano being used as an antibiotic alternative for poorly chickens. Has anyone tried this before or something similar? One of my chickens was looking a little sad tonight so she has put me in a what if thoughtful mood....will check her again in...

Square Metre Gardening

Well, I'm thinking about next year and growing my veggies using the square metre gardening method. I must admit to being keen to have a go but there is a recommended special growing mix to use in these raised beds and I'm not sure. The book by Mel Bartholomew suggests one third garden compost, one t...

Re: Fireworks advice?

Hi We have been following a few suggestions made my Wendy (thanks Wendy!) for our dog Honey. After a trip to the vet we have been using an Adaptil collar which she has had on for a week. She has turned into a happy puppy again, very cute and very relaxed. Tonight we have had a few more fireworks goi...

Re: Advice on separating birds

Hello, pleased to meet you! I've have a bad tempered chicken. She is a Bluebelle, 'Busty Bell' I call her! We originally had four girls living in harmony until a dog got in and killed one of my beautiful girls. Now down to three I decided to get two more and the trouble began. Bell really started go...

Re: New chicken house time but which one?!

I love my Omlet Cube! It is so easy to clean and take care of, especially due to its height. I have five hybrids but not sure if there would be enough room for 10, suppose it depends on the breeds you have. We have a 3 metre run with a see through waterproof cover but this is never closed as they ha...

Re: Mud bath

Hi,

Argos do a child's plastic apple shaped sand and water pit. I've seen one part used as a dust bath and the other part as the lid. It's would probably have room for a few chickens at the same time. Might be worth a look, not sure how much it is though :-D

Hi,

A quarter standard has a clear trunk of around a metre with the main bush growing on top of that.

They do look more interesting than a normal gooseberry bush :-D

Bonfire night

Just been reading the posts about Bonfire night and chickens. We have a dog who goes out of her mind every year and I'm wondering what steps everyone takes to help their pets get through it? We have tried ignoring the bangs, turning up the tv and making a den etc but each year she seems to get worse...
