Re: Operation Chicken Run!I went over there this morning for the usual jobs and to hang up some spring cabbages for them to peck at. I have four fruit trees inside their enclosure. Two of these are quite small (a pear and a plum) which makes them handy for hanging treats from. They do love their greens and it gives them some...
Re: The Dinosaurs in my Back GardenGood afternoon, Yes, as my birds are at an allotment the auto is particularly useful. As you say, it also allows them to come in and out as they wish rather than waiting for us to get out of bed. Hamble has some wonderful double-lacing, what a beaut! Enjoyed hearing about the velociraptor twins too....
Re: Minxy's Growing DiaryYes, it was a lot of work. The plot is far bigger than I thought it was! Haha...that's what I tell myself about the cherry tree area! Sadly, most of it will have to be covered over for this season as I won't have the time for much this year, due to other commitments. I've just been over there and ha...
Minxy's Growing DiaryHello! I took on my main plot mid-June 2015. It was extremely overgrown as the previous owner was an elderly chap who had been ill for a very long time. Initially, I had to dig out a number of self-seeded Ash tree saplings and generally just get the site cleared. I don't mind saying that it was back...
Re: Blind Giblet & friends at ChickenopolousReally enjoyed reading this and seeing all the inspiring things you've come up with for Giblet. Also, that sunrise is awesome! I am intrigued by you planting herbs for Giblet. Are there any particular ones that they like to eat? Any flowers? I was thinking of what I could plant for my lot to keep th...
Re: Roses: What are your favourites? I love flowers for their fragrance. My favourite being the old Fragrant Cloud which is one of the reds and for a climber Albertine which is a pale apricot or peach, never sure how to define. Sorry I don't have photos. I just looked up 'Fragrant Cloud'. Ooooo.....I love fragrant ones too. Just found...

That's a really good coop. I have the automatic pop hole too, a total godsend! Looking forward to hearing more, especially some photographs and your blog, 'The Velociraptor Twins'.

Re: Operation Chicken Run! Coloured Eggs and Leghorns So I snapped this one of 'Lady Gaga' (I didn't name her!) this morning. Or as one of my daughters likes to sing when she sees her, "Ra, ra, om-pa-pa; my eggs are ooh-la-la"! She is a white leghorn. A pure breed, these are prolific layers, known for producing app...
Re: Roses: What are your favourites?
Black Baccara is a really dark velvety one. Maybe it is that one? Or Red Velvet? Same! I don't like Blue Moon either. :)
Re: Hybrid hens vs bantams But the downside to purebreeds, large or small, is that they go broody quite often where as hybrids rarely do. Hello Kitla! I fully agree with you regarding Orpingtons, mine were notorious for going broody. But I have to say, of all the breeds I've kept in the past, it was only ever the Orps for me...
