Re: Operation Chicken Run!

My Salmon Faverolles All of my birds are looking quite scruffy at the moment due to all the rain we've had, so please excuse their appearance! I didn't get them all, but here are a few anyway. Of all the breeds I have (or have had in the past) I think that this one is the most affectionate. They or...

Re: Operation Chicken Run!

Aw, thanks stripeddonkey and Trev62!

So finally, I snapped a couple of my boy Harvey this morning. He's a Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rock, every bit the gentleman and we love him. :)

Re: Hybrid hens vs bantams

Hi!

Most of the true bantams are all 'booted' (feathered legs) eg: Sabelpoots, Pekin, Burmese. The ones that spring to mind that are not booted are: Sebrights, Polands and the Belgian Barbu d'Anvers. Hope that helps!

Re: LL's Gardening Diary

Oh no, that sounds awful! After all of that work too. I'm not sure if it helps but it may be worth investigating/disputing the water costs with them? On our allotment site they tried to put the charges up. However, the Board put forward a case for reducing the water charge on the basis that the wate...

Roses: What are your favourites?

Hello, In the absence of some colour outside, I was just looking through some photos of my garden last year. What is your favourite rose and why? Photographs please! My favourite has to be 'Gertrude Jekyll'. It gets covered in beautiful pink roses which have the most glorious scent that wafts. Anoth...

Re: sweetpeas

I love sweetpeas! Mine went really well last year. Here's a picture: m I took the pods off for a while because I wanted more flowers. After a while, I stopped doing that and left them. Because they were planted in a sheltered area, they self-seeded and are coming back on their own this year. :)

Re: Operation Chicken Run!

Boys Wil Be Boys So I will post some pictures of my flock soon but in the meantime, I thought I'd take a trip down memory lane and tell you about some of my previous boys. Here they are: (Top Row: Left to Right) 'Bear' (Blue Partridge Brahma) and 'George' (Blue Orpington). (Middle Row: Left to Righ...

Re: Breeding chickens - Daft questions!!!

Thanks for the reply......... Your cockerel ought to be doing his job anyway. The glint in his eye, the smile on his beak.... Careful, the ladies 'perked' up at that. 'Fifty Shades of Plumage' material right there! m On a serious note, that all sounds very productive. Looking forward to seeing all ...

Re: Breeding chickens - Daft questions!!!

Okay Ladies and Gentlemen, it is daft question time again................... We are still making our plans for next year concerning poultry keeping etc. Today we were discussing raising our own chicks from our current chickens, firstly because it is something we have never done before, secondly it ...

Re: Operation Chicken Run!

Yep, it is so frustrating! I used to keep the movable ones too, as breeding pens. Agreed, such a pain to move them around! I've some woodchip arriving on Friday so guess that's my weekend sorted then. I've emailed our allotment secretary though. We do have some grassy areas dotted about the place an...

Re: MEMBERS CHICKEN COOP PHOTO'S (PICS ONLY PLEASE)

So I've just realised that I should have posted this here! I still can't work out how to use Photoshoot and certainly not without being asked to pay for it. So I've uploaded to Flickr instead. Just click on the link and it will take you straight to the pictures, these can be enlarged or zoomed. My f...

Re: The Dinosaurs in my Back Garden

....Well, believe it or not, chickens are actually evolutionary descendants of T-Rex!....The dinosaurs had arrived.... Glad to hear that you've finally been able to give this a go. :) Funny you should say that. My husband always says that they look like Velociraptors to him, which they do when you ...

Re: Operation Chicken Run!

Thanks! Though it doesn't look like that at the moment. They've eaten all the grass and with the wet weather, the ground has turned into one big mud patch! They are happy and healthy though. My only concern is the muddy ground and of course, the dirty puddles that form after a heavy downpour which t...

Re: Operation Chicken Run!

I love baby chicks but I don't much care for the amount of poop and noise the create! They are just like human babies: eat, sleep, poop, cry. When they are awake, they do not cease chirping. Their instincts are fascinating, though they seemed to think I was Mum. One in particular was not satisfied u...

If she is skin and bone and not eating just two weeks after you obtained her, then you should be going back to the person who supplied her.
