Re: Goats

Added to our small herd today, we collected two mini Hollandi goat mothers with their four kids. The kids are actually smaller than our cats at present. They are very nervous at present having had little human contact and will be quarantined for a month before being introduced to our other goats. Fi...

Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog!

I miss growing Jerusalem artichokes - they made excellent "chips" when sliced and deep fried. They grew well in less than ideal soil on the allotment but were prone to slug damage which is why they needed to be harvested as soon as the plants died back. That is how we like them as well. I did not r...

Re: Learning Guitar

Takes me a while to get from sight reading (guessing really) to concert ready, but I'm usually there or nearly. 4 concerts a year and a hard one coming up in March. Monteverdi's Vespers - 8 parts + soloists, so even knowing what line I'm supposed to be on needs work. Well Mo, are you concert ready ...

Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog!

Tackled the Jerusalem artichokes, due to them not being cut back and harvested most had rotted but the survivors have been repositioned and now have a lovely new home to grow in. Fingers crossed they multiply during the year. Trimmed back the remaining herbs and cleared another area to plant some mo...

Re: Getting back to painting & drawing

Nice drawing, very impressive considering you are just finding your feet again doing artwork. Hope your friend is happy with it.

Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog!

Goji berries and blueberries had to wait today, instead I moved some hedging plants then replaced them with new buckthorn rootings /stems that had spread from our original plants. Never realized how buckthorn grew and propagated so the extras are a bonus and the spikes will make a good deterrent in ...

Re: Painting/waterproofing Breeze blocks

Finally finished sorting the breeze blocks today, applied a couple of coats of PVA glue then a couple of masonry paint. Looks tidier but may need to add some "graffiti" to break the solid wall colour up a bit. See how I feel after looking at it for a few days.

Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog!

Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog!

So tayberries and black raspberries sorted but still have the frames to make for them. Strawberry beds extended, plants separated and both beds now fully planted up. Rhubarb uncovered, most seems to have survived the winter. Now on with clearing all the debris from around the fruit trees a few days ...

Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog!

Finally all the raspberries are sorted, they are self supporting so we are not going to put back all the supporting frames and wires. We shall see how it goes, if needed we can rig up something later. Garlic bed repaired and planted up also the peas are all planted and covered so things are moving a...

Re: Goats

Our rescued Saanen is not pregnant as she is too large for our buck to reach but he just had to try and ended up causing himself a (hopefully not permanent) injury but that is another story. Can you build him a ramp. Though I suppose you'd have to hold her still or it might cause a worse injury We ...

Re: Goats

So we have been studying the books and videos regarding how to tell if a goat is pregnant, as usual all the information conflicts and leaves you totally baffled. However, after saying that, from what we did glean from all the information we do suspect that two of our goats are pregnant, which would ...

Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog!

We are now on with recreating the walkways through the raspberry bed. We have transplanted loads of rooted raspberry canes into newly dug beds by the perimeter fence but still have a lot more to move. If they take we are considering (next year) scrapping the current raspberry bed as we can utilize t...

Re: Learning Guitar

Obviously doing something wrong but I have yet to figure out what >shrug< Maybe someone on https://mudcat.org// would be able to give you a hint. It's a site where people ask about folk and blues (and all sorts else, and just chat) Thanks for the link, I have had a quick look at the site and will j...

Re: Learning Guitar

Not too bad thanks, another couple of lessons completed. I have settled into a practice routine where I recap/practice one lesson from the first five as a warm up/focus exercise then move on to the new lesson. I am currently learning to do small string slides (ONLY spanning up to five frets), but ha...
