Re: Growing GingerThanks for the links Mo. In the next couple of weeks I will give one of the "recipes" a try, no doubt another disaster awaits me but it is too much of a challenge to turn down, so if you hear a loud bang in the near future you know I will be on my hands and knees cleaning up a sticky mess ...
Re: Bumper BlackBerry cropSame where we live, I picked another two kilo of blackberries this afternoon and will return tomorrow for more, also we have had the best year since planting our raspberry canes and there are a lot more to come yet. I may plant some more canes in when I cut them back again later in the year. My pick...
Re: StrawsI do not remember making things out of straws but I remember attempting Origami - The Japanese art of paperfolding and playing Jack Straws, thinking back we also played Jacks, where you bounced a small rubber ball and had to pick up these jacks from the ground before catching the ball after one boun...
Re: New to chicken keepingThanks for the advice again. We have put down an extra feeder today so we now have three down all day with dry food in them, twice a day we put two flat bowls down with the same food mixed with water (mush we call it) and along side that they get a good supply of most things that we grow. There are ...
Re: Growing GingerI know we are well off topic but I am intrigued.....................has anyone still got a recipe for their ginger "plant"? Always one to experiment and it would be interesting to give it a go. Enjoyed reading all the "ginger connections". I used to work in Hull and never knew ab...
Re: Slugs!!Try replacing the beer in the trap with milk sometimes it works better also a solution of one part vinegar and one part water should do the trick, if not, skip the water. Just be careful as vinegar can act as an herbicide in your garden, don't spray it directly on any plants.
Re: New to chicken keepingOkay Folks another daft question! Am I feeding my chickens enough food? I now have ten of the feathery blighters and currently they are getting through a 10kg bag of food a week plus a a variety of courgettes, cucumbers, cabbage leaves, fruit etc. They all free range so are also feeding on whatever ...
Re: TortoiseThe tortoise, who although female has been named Boris has started her pre hibernation feeding, we often weigh her when she passes through the garden to ensure she is getting enough food when out foraging and she is putting on weight nicely. At present we have a surplus of home grown melons (the fir...
Re: Blossom DropThe good news is.......................after some feed and plenty of gentle tapping of the flowers we now have a few small tomatoes developing. Most flowers still drop of and die but there is a noticable improvement so we should at least get a few decent ones to jar for the winter, sigh of relief al...
Re: Growing GingerMany thanks Mo. Our plants are growing in pots inside the house and after reading various links on the internet I will just let one keep growing and see what happens, the other I will snap a few bits off when there are more shoots. A case of trial and error really!! It will be interesting to see how...
Re: Growing GingerOur first ginger shoot has reached about three foot in height now with a second showing. I planted a second piece and that already has a green shoot showing. Not sure when you can start to harvest the ginger so more research is required on that. Both plants have now been moved to a safe area away fr...

Re: axolotlI have never known anyone that keeps these but when I lived in England I used to buy newt eggs from a conservationist who was allowed to sell them. These I raised using indoor tanks before releasing them into my garden wildlife pond, eventually I managed to establish a self supporting colony of newt...
