Re: x battery hens

Hiya suncaddie7 Which rehoming organisation did you get your hens from? All the battery hens that get rehomed are aged 18months old , and if you got them in October, there is an extremely high chance that your hens are having a winter break or in a moult, as do a lot of hens at this time of the year...

Re: Lancashire Chicken Owners

If you want to email me posters I'll ask if I can put them up. The place I get my horse feed from would probably display one too. Hiya, If you PM me your address, I can send you some posters Sorry for ever so slightly hijacking here, but this is a good thread, I would like to know where everyone ge...

Re: October 15th 2011 Rehoming date

When's the closing date for applications? I'm saving for a new shed/hen house for our current chooks & am planning on doing up their present house & using it for ex-batts. If I know the closing date I know how long I have to get sorted & persuade Simon that I'll need the use of his van ...

Re: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Hiya, Finally got hold of the lady at the farm, she says the waterbelly hens are on a course of antibiotics although the vet doesnt think they will help but is giving it a try as they are not as bad as some she has seen in the past. The foot injury has been treated and will heal ok. The limping lady...

Re: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Just curious as to what happened to the couple of birds with water belly? I mean the hens! Hiya, All hens that are not well enough to rehome come with me and get treatment with a vet. There is a lady in my area who has stables and lots of land and her best friend is a vet who calls in weekly for co...

Re: Questions/comments on Volunteering

Hiya, As one of the main organisers of these rehomings, I take all the poorly hens home with me, they all get checked over at a qualified avian vets and once they are better, they all go to a smallholding to live out in complete freedom with fields, paddock, muck heap (which is where they spend most...

Re: Help/advice: converting a plastic kennel to chicken coop

Hiya, LisaB told me about this thread yesterday but I was out so could not reply until now. I have converted a half height plastic shed into a coop. It is only a coop for my girls to sleep in, so I dont have a nest box in there as I've got a separate one which they use. I also used a dogflap for the...

So sorry that you lost your lady {cry} you and your daughter showed her love and gave her the freedom to be a real chicken.

I believe that it doesnt matter how long they are free from the cages, to the hens, they are free for a lifetime. You gave her a chance {hug}

Re: Iwill not be beaten LOL

Hiya, They look like ex-batts, if they are, the trough feeder will always work because the feeder that battery hens eat from is a long trough that the food passes along at the front of the cage. Only difference here, is they have the freedom to roam once they are full. Well done for winning with the...

Couple of pics from my collection point.

Hiya, Thought I would share some piccies from my collection point. I only took a couple though. Normally I snap anything even if it moves or not, but since my camera battery is conking out, doesnt hold a charge for long, I now use my phone to snap with. These were taken shortly after we had put the ...
