Re: Smelly duck Egg!!!!

That's right we do not lock them up at night...they are in a garden with a 6foot high chain link fence...to keep the children in but I do not think it would keep foxes out. the hens are safe and sound in an omlett cube and the rabbits are in an omlett rabbit hutch, but the ducks just sleep wherever....

Re: Smelly duck Egg!!!!

The problem with my ducks is they do not live in a duck house as such, they have a dog kennel full of lovely straw...all cosy... but do they go in it? NO so they just lay their eggs wherever they are! at the moment in the sludge and worse....We did try shutting them up at night for safety, but as th...

Smelly duck Egg!!!!

Recently I have had two eggs...from the same duck (only one is laying) that smells awfull, not the "bad egg" sulpher sort of smell, but a very ...er I think sour is probably the best description. the yolk and the white look ok and I know the eggs were fresh. the only thing was they both ha...

Re: Butter and cheese making

I have only made it from double cream... very simple, just put in food mixer. When lump of butter is produced save the buttermilk for cooking. Rinse the butter in coldwater and enjoy...easy.

Re: Rabbits Wood or bark chippings?

Yes I have heard that bark can be a problem.... didn't read it until I had put four big bags of it in the chicken run!!!!!! thankfully they seem ok and it must be 6 months at least since I put it in, it has gradually disintigrated into the soil (used to be lawn).

Hadn't thought about sand.

Rabbits Wood or bark chippings?

Our 2 rabbits live in an eglu with a very extended run... they did used to have free range in the garden, but one of them was causing too much damage. I have had to put netting on the ground to stop the amazing digging skills of one of the rabbits and I would like to cover this with chippings...is t...

Re: Food recycling

Just been checking out price of the bran stuff for bokashi bins and the price quoted by p.penn is quite high, it is available for 6kg for £25.42 .... I think this amount would last a long time. Hmmmmmmmm will have to think about this and shop around the web a bit more.

Re: Food recycling

Where we used to live we could put raw fruit and veg in with garden rubish in a green bin. Now we live 10 miles away we can only put garden rubbish in??? Luckily I compost our stuff but still don't understand the difference.

Does anyone use a bokashi bin? (think that's the spelling)
