Re: picked on lady is now poorly.

If these 5 are ex cage birds then they will probably have been fed mash and not pellets!, as has been suggested, soak some pellets in water to turn them into mash, then slowly reduce the water until they are used to the pellets! )t'

Hi Jackie, I have a Solway eco hen house and did get some degree on condensation on the inside when I had 6 girls, only two now!, just adjusted the ventilation openings, seem to cure most of it!.
I use chopped straw for bedding, its called Bed-Down Traditional, got a nice fragrance too! )t'

Re: Opinions on solar panels, please

The other point to take into consideration is, if you have them fitted to your roof, then make sure your roof is sound!, as trying to fix a leak after they have been installed can be costly, especially if they all have to come off again!, then back on, not cheap!!. }hairout{

Re: Do Hybrid chickens stop laying in the winter?

Winter months obviously has less day light hours, this has an affect on egg production, whereas in the summer months egg production generally increases. I shouldn't worry about your chooks conserving their energy levels to keep warm, they will cope better in the colder months than the heat of summer...
