Re: Starting to forage firewood

Richard, If you want some already cut to size and seasoned I have a bit of a surplus. In the last three years I have taken out the top 25ish feet of one maple, one oak, coppiced a hazel and I'm half way through an oak this year. This winter or next year I have to remove one 45 foot oak completely an...

Now Eldest Is Baking A Marrow Cake

Now she's found a recipe for courgette/marrow, carrot orange cake and has just popped it in the oven.
If it doesn't kill me I'll let you know what it's like.
Only another 4 hundred weight of courgettes/marrows to use up and they're still coming yike*

Courgetti

In our efforts to not waste any courgettes/marrows our eldest found a recipe for courgette spaghetti using goats cheese, herbs & spices for flavouring. We had some the other night and it was suprisingly good so we are having it again tonight as an accompaniment to a fish dish Might experiment wi...

Re: What is Saving September

Not a good month for me to try this unless I can discount the annual car service, MOT, Road Tax and insurance as well as house contents insurance. Also it is the month that our youngest starts at Uni so I've got to kit her out with all the necessities of independant living. After that lot I should h...

Re: Do You Know What It Is Yet (FINISHED)

Nice start, but a little way to go to finish like this Bet they'd snap if you tried mixing a cake and would dig into your hands while you were at it, whereas mine are ergonomically crafted for comfort and practicality. Not to mention mine cost me sod all rather than the £39 he's charging The spatul...

Re: Do You Know What It Is Yet (FINISHED)

With today having standard issue Bank Holiday weather I think today will be spatula day. I'll start by making a matching one for my prototype spoon.

Re: Red Mite Erradication Experiment

With other things going on I haven't got as far as I'd hoped but I have cleaned down the inside of the coop and done one coat on most of it with a double coat on some, it will probably require three. It does seem to be working but maybe a little early to tell for sure. The mite show up really clearl...

This Year's Hatch

Ali's been busy hatching chooks this year so I thought you might like to see some photos. The first lot, 14 in all, are some white and lavender Leghorns she bought the eggs for and some of our own. There was a bit of a mix up and we seem to have got Orpington/ Legbar crosses that we are calling Orpy...

Re: Do You Know What It Is Yet (FINISHED)

I finished the spoon today all bar the oiling which should give the wood a lovely honey colour. Our youngest loves it and has ordered a matching spatular. Our eldest has also put in an order for a matching set. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/DlqTKjx8hu8pS5lTGKzegqgsUGWreFgoURDuBs5z1sU=w811-h608-n...

Re: Do You Know What It Is Yet

Did a bit more on the spoon yesterday about two hours work. I started by beginning to rough out the bowl with a gouge but I've only got a small one (ooo matron) so it took longer than I expected. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/GnJrKv5crlqTlodaSuZ3PwGUcgKfBonzZ6bNNMJzTi0=w811-h608-no Then I smooth...
