Plum jam

I am going to have my first attempt in making plum jam today. I am a bit confused reading different recipes. Some use varying amounts of water. One even as much as 450ml for 1.5kg plums and 1.5kg of sugar! It does seem a bit too much!? I wish I'd never looked at different recipes now! You more exper...

Re: Antibiotic not working

Sorry to hear your girl is not well!
Give the AB's a little longer to do their job! It does take a few days, usually 3-4 and they carry on working once the course is finished!
I hope she'll improve soon! >fi<

Re: Omlet have a new Coloured cube!

The cube looks absolutely great, and the colours are fun I agree, but no matter how many times I look at eglus and think that maybe I would really like one, I cannot stop myself wondering how on earth the manufacturers can justify their completely outrageous price tags. For that reason alone, as th...

Re: disaster!

Oh dear! I hope you managed to salvage your jam! I am going to pick some plums tomorrow, so this could quite easily happen to me too! It's only my second attempt in jam making. Could anyone advise me please if I can reduce the sugar a bit? I made strawberry jam and used 1:1 jam sugar, but would like...

Re: Major red mite infestation

Oh dear me! Harehatch....your post made me itch all over! I have to wait for a delivery this morning, but as soon as it arrives, I'll be getting more RM spray. Only had a tiny bit left. I can't believe how covered I was yesterday. All I did was to lift one nestbox out and they were all over me! I dre...

Re: Major red mite infestation

Phew...feel a bit better now! We were going to get a plastic bin storage unit at one point anyway...the mites just hurried it up a bit! OH went and got one just before the stores closed. Luckily, many of our neighbours keep chickens too, so we managed to get some straw of one of them. The hens have ...

Major red mite infestation

Having a mild panic attack here! Was waiting for the hens to stop laying before I clean the coop out. Went out an hour ago and the coop is literally crawling. All that within a week! Didn't notice a single mite during the week when poo picking and now they are absolutely everywhere! Now I haven't go...

Re: It's Blackberry season again!!

We hacked our way into the wasteland behind our new house. Many many years ago it used to be a smallholding. I can't believe what we found! A multitude of fruit trees, several types of apples, pears, plums and damsons. We can make blackberry crumble and jams til they come out of our ears! Tons of th...

Courgette problems

For years I've only ever had 2 Courgette plants and that was plenty to keep us going through the summer and sometimes we had so many, that I gave some away. For the second year running, they are not doing well at all! Plants develop normally, then flower, but as soon as the fruits develop, the ends ...

Re: Stopped smoking and losing weight

Week 3 smoke free! I stopped using the patches 5 days ago. Not because I wanted to, ran out and had no money to get new ones, so just used the Nicorette Mist spray. Actually, it was fine, so I decided not to buy anymore patches. Stocked up on spray for our holiday! Lost 1.5lbs this week...total of 7...

)c( It's funny how excited we get isn't it? :-D
You'll love having hens! They are amazing pets!
If you can, place your run in at least partial shade. They love the sun, but also need plenty of shade, especially in the high temperatures we've been having lately!
How many are you planning on getting Sara?

Re: Red mite Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

We are looking to get one of these. Great size and price! Pop hole is going to go in the side and the double doors are just used for cleaning. If you have a store nearby you can pop in and have a look at them. They are manufactured by Keter.
