Re: another strange poop - with pic

AHA! Just checked the coop...looks like Rolypoly has now laid her first egg!!! Its very pale (not the brown one we expected) & has a half soft shell, there's also a couple of spots of blood nearby. ......but its an egg! her vent seems ok, her haemorrhoid feels a little bit bigger, but she's stil...

Re: another strange poop - with pic

Oh its no use, I can't stop worrying! I've just remembered, when my son picked Roly up a few days ago, a puddle of white fluid dripped out of her. I'm worried she may be developing EYP. Or that the respiritory infection she had in 2 months ago may have affected her ability to lay eggs (I read too mu...

Re: Quail

oh dear! Did you have to eat them?

I must say it sounds like quails are not that well suited to captivity. I wonder
why they're so popular?
Are they not calmer if they're hand reared?

Re: Quail

I'm interested in this thread. We may be moving in June & will have a bit of land & some sheds. I'm looking for something my ASD teenage son can manage himself, keeping some quails for eggs sounds ideal. We have a relative nearby who's a caterer & may buy the eggs from him. Could anyone ...

Re: orpington cockerel looking for new home

He's gone We'll miss him. My son spent half the day cuddling him. But what a smashing home he's got! This family have their little garden stuffed with chickens, ducks & quails, most of them are off to the smallholding land in the morning, & most of them got a good cuddle from my kids before ...

Re: orpington cockerel NOT looking for new home

Turns out he'll be going in with some ex batts, they have several flocks with a cockerel each.
And for anyone else who's trying to rehome, all the offers came through pre-loved.

Re: orpington cockerel looking for new home

Hooray! yippey! I've had 3 offers of homes for Bubbles!!!!! One is from a couple nearby with a new smallholding, they seem to be collecting poultry & animals, ...because they love them! Its the best home we could find him, but I will miss him. I'll miss his constant chatter as he walks round the...

Re: orpington cockerel looking for new home

Both rehomers eat the ones they cant find homes for, one was honest about it one wasnt. So he's not going there! A relative offered to put him with her pheasants, fox safe & fed, but just found out he'll have no coop not even a shed, & there's more snow & ice coming ... just cant do it! ...

Re: Rolypoly's bright green poop

Well Roly is fine this morning, & no strange poops in the coop.
Maybe she did eat something poisonous, I dont use slug pellets or anything, but
we do have foxgloves & nightshade about, & little shoots are appearing around the garden. I'll keep an eye on her.

Re: Rolypoly's bright green poop

I give her layers pellets in the morning, & sometimes boiled veg with layers mash to munch in the day, then handfulls of corn scattered now & then, & a handfull each before roost time. Should be ok, unless she's picked up a poisonous plant. I'm wondering if these symptoms could be releva...

Re: Rolypoly's bright green poop

She's been eating ok, she ate plenty of corn yesterday afternoon. Wasnt too
keen first thing this am, but has been eating ok since then.
Yes I think the green stuff was a bit lumpy, & stringy. I hope this isnt to do with
her hernia.
