If you're making a batch, you really do need to let the tray heat back up again before you do each lot.

Re: Smoky dalWe've just had a new hob, so didn't think it was a good idea to try it out on there and instead googled to see what others do. An Israeli bloke just put a metal tray in his oven, which he turned up to max. When it was to temperature, he put the breads directly onto the tray and left them for 5 minut...
Re: Using salt as a weed preventative
So I can see how sugar might have the same effect ... maybe worth an experiment ....
Oh no! If only I had some weeds to test it out on........
Re: Using salt as a weed preventativeLL - you may find this interesting regarding manipulation of N through antimicrobial action by sugaring: m and m I have also read, but am more sceptical about, the idea that roots osmose the sugar preferentially and it acts like a superfertiliser such that the plant burns itself out. As the soil sug...
Re: Using salt as a weed preventativeI'd forgotten but I'm sure I read on here somewhere that you can use sugar instead of salt - never tried it though.
Re: Using salt as a weed preventativeI hadn't heard of that, Karen. I'll try it immediately, though' I might need a considerably bigger kettle!
Re: Poor old catI understand the expense thing too - ours cost us a fortune, not that I begrudge them the money. I suppose it couldn't hurt to try feeding him at those times as, if it's blood sugar, then it may wander up and down a bit and not necessarily at the point he had the test. That wouldn't cost anything to...
Re: Poor old catOne of ours did this. He had developed diabetes as a secondary problem to something else, and when his blood sugar was low he had the 'walking in circles' fit. Over the phone our vet, who specialised in cats, told us to feed him, and almost immediately he was better. The diabetes was easy to treat a...
Re: Chicken FeedViolet, you make me think back to the 'early days' when we had ours and were still finding out about them - it was a very exciting time. I think it must be like having a first child! If you really want to blow your mind, you could look at the second thread on this Chicken Keeping index - loads of ph...
Re: Smoky dalThat's an interesting idea - I'll try par-cooking then dropping them on the ring directly. What could go wrong.....
Re: New green normalI agree that there are too many people and wee need to do the planet-friendly thing when we can, but I genuinely think the new normal stuff is about following the science and trying to protect as many as possible from catching the virus.
Re: Smoky dalCan I ask what you use to make your chapatis and flatbreads?
I don't have a cast iron pan or a gas hob. I did it in normal frying pans but they don't stay up to temperature for long - the electric hob rings were glowing bright red and I'm worried about burning out the elements.
Re: Cookery BooksI think I'm a bit the same now, picking one or two but I do use the others for inspiration - I think the problem for me is that many recipes need things that I wouldn't use in sufficient quantity to justify buying, so I riff on the general theme, using up stuff that needs eating. There are books I'v...
Re: Courgette support in PolytunnelThis is a question that I'm sure someone else can answer, but would it be worth pinching out some of the growth on the plants? I'm thinking that it must be putting a lot of energy into the stems and leaves rather than producing flowers and fruit..... I've never had such successful courgette that the...
