Re: NestboxesJust a little update, the nest is complete & the female has been roosting each night for a week. Can't work out if there are any eggs, she sleeps on the edge of the nest which would suggest that there are eggs but they cover them up until they start brooding them so can't really see properly. Th...
Re: Mallards by the fourteen !!Great photo Richard! At long last wildlife is getting on with Spring!
Re: Wildlifemad's Allotment DiaryWe did 5 hours on the plot on Saturday. Hubby put posts in all the way down the plot ready for the chicken wire we bought. I cleared the cabbage roots & purple sprouting plants that had finished but the ground was a bit too wet to clear the weeds, the soil was sticking to the roots too much. So ...
Re: First Cuckoo of the yearOn Sunday morning (15th) we popped to the allotment for half an hour & heard our 1st Cuckoo of the year! Calling for 20 mins, Spring has sprung!!! This is a month earlier than the last 2 years so it is possible it was a bird just passing through, time will tell if we hear it again.
Re: Hedgehogs!I know what you mean Kitla about the abcess not for the delicate tummy people!!!!! Great programme though.
Re: NestboxesI have just read this post I started last year & how it shows how far behind things are this year. We have Great tits again nest building in the box so look forward to the highs & lows again! It was touch & go for a while as I had replaced an open fronted box to one with a hole up by the...
Hedgehogs!A heads up for wildlife watchers. Channel 5 at 7pm tonight is showing Steve Backshall's Hedgehog Rescue. It is a repeat apparently but I've not seen it so will be recording it!
First Swallow of the year!We saw our 1st Swallow of the year on Saturday at home just as we got back from Mums! Always great to see but for us we love it when the Swifts arrive.
Re: LL's Gardening DiaryStrawberries are looking good LL! Fingers crossed we are over the worst of all this awful weather now. It's such a shame when you book time off & have all your plans worked out & then the weather doesn't play ball.
Re: Wildlifemad's Allotment DiaryWait for it....We got on the plot yesterday!!!!! We did nearly 5 hours & got the Garlic planted out all 145 of them. Have to admit it felt really good being outside in the fresh air, even if it was hard work! We saw quite a few other plot holders to have a bit of banter with which was nice. We h...
Re: Wildlifemad's Allotment DiaryHi Karen. Yes they do have half size plots & to be honest I think they would split our plot as the big plots aren't as popular anymore. We'll see what happens this year!
Re: Osprey in Warwickshire!!!It certainly was a red letter day! We usually wait to see them in Scotland but was fab to see one again so close to home!
Richard, good luck with the Goshawk, we've seen them but distantly. We must try harder!!
Re: Loan paid off! Thanks everyone!! As I said I like the challenge. MQ, your suggestion of saving up is something we are aiming at, the car we've just paid for is 3yrs old in November, previously we changed it at about 18 months old, always got a good price for them & the loan (this was the 3rd car) was always ch...

Loan paid off!We took out a flexible loan to buy our car & took it out over 4 years (so no pressure payment wise). As it was flexible you could overpay on it which we have & as of Monday we have cleared it totally 19 months earlier than it was due & saving interest into the bargain, although it was a ...
