Looking good--no reason why it shouldn't work. The good sign is green shoots on the scion
Do you know what the rootstock is?
I assume you know not to prune in the winter and paint all cuts with seal and heal, unlike the change now widely accepted of not painting apple and pear.

Thanks for that Skeksis - I'll do some research, but yeast is a pervasive and hard to kill micro - the last thing she needs is thrush! Hi Fishpond. Yes she has had surgery and AB's - almost £200's worth to no effect. This is one expensive hen but as long as she enjoys life then she should be allowed to carry on. As I have missed Bumbles foot previous posts, has she had a full course of AB's?
If so, get the vet to take a sample swab to see which AB should be effective.
Just a thought.

Thanks fishpond that's exactly what I was after. Are all the above ok to be started indoors in small pots, obviously I will transport them into bigger pots and eventually raised beds as they grow. Thanks again. Personally, I would sow carrots and beetroot directly into the ground, but if needs must...

They will need light, else "if" they germinate they will be weak, leggy and of no use. :-D
If you do not ventilate they wil probably die, caused by damping off. :-D

Keep a close eye on the one with all her feathers.
Who is where in the pecking order?
Possibly all but one are moulting.
If it was mites wouldn't they all be showing signs?
