Poorly blackbird - are you there Steve?Poorly blackbird - are you there Steve?Calling Steve the gas cos I know you're bit of a wild bird expert.
My son just brought in an adult male blackbird he found in the village (there were some teenagers he didnt trust nearbye so didnt want to leave it there) It kept falling over, it's now quietly in a small cardboard box in the garage, with a little bird seed & water. It's not trying to escape, just sitting there,so I reckon its either stunned, internally injured, or poisoned. If he's still alive in the morning I may take him to the local wildlife rescue. If he is ok I would like to give him the best chance, is there anything else we could do for him? Do you think he'll get too hot in a small box? I thougnt the dark would de-stress him. --Immanuel Kant Re: Poorly blackbird - are you there Steve?Hi, semi dark is good - ie- curtains shut. My Mum made that mistake when I had a young blackbird, she opened some curtains in the room it was in - it killed itself on the glass, repeatedly trying to fly out. I was gonna let it go the very next day.
Anyhoo, I digress, give some protein- worms, maggots at worst wet dog/cat food. Very small amount of sugar in some water, say tip of a teaspoon amount.. Leave it quiet until the morning and re-assess. Re: Poorly blackbird - are you there Steve? Thanks Steve, I'll go dig up a worm!

--Immanuel Kant Re: Poorly blackbird - are you there Steve? He didnt make it, I didnt really think he would. At least he didnt get attacked
by anything (or anyone) in his helpless state. I always feel sad when they die at this time of the year, I think of the nest of young he was probably feeding. "He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals."
