beak problems in wild birdsbeak problems in wild birdsThere's 2 dear little blackbird fledglings been hopping about our garden lately,
this morning they were eating the chicken food....with Pickle! & she didnt seem to care. But it seemed odd that one particularly was so tame, I got close enough for a good look, its beak is stuck open, I think its crossed, it may be damaged its hard to tell. It didnt look well - probably starving poor thing. I was a googling when I came across this http://www.bto.org/volunteer-surveys/gb ... jects/bgbw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I havent noticed this problem before, but probably be more aware of it now, has anyone else seen this in the wild birds? If its so common in rooks, it cant be just due to bird tables. "He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals."
--Immanuel Kant Re: beak problems in wild birdsI would suggest - it's best to let nature take its course- let them die out by natural selection.
Obviously we need to know if humans are causing it though and stop that reason... Re: beak problems in wild birdsWe caught the baby blackbird today & took it to the local rescue while their
vet was visiting, its beak was actually broken from an accident, the vet will try to wire it up. I've offered to sponser it, if it survives. "He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals."

little chap had his op, was doing ok to start with, then keeled over & died. probably from shock. At least he was given a chance. "He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals."
--Immanuel Kant Re: beak problems in wild birdsWell done for giving it a chance
