Testing for warm soil

Interesting on Gardeners World this evening when Monty Dom was planting his second earlies.

He siad that in bygone days, to test the soil was warm enough to sow Vegetables etc. Farmers would simply sit on the soil to test it.

Guess if they got a cold damp bot, they'd wait another week!

Anyway, made me smile.

I was once told I would need some extra rooting compound for that.
As my mate pointed at my half burried greenhouse thermometer. )grin2(

Me too Mallard.. :oops: .. I also keep a full watering can of water in the greenhouse to make sure my seedlings get a nice tepid drink so I don't chill them )grin2(
