A mole problem.

Post by stiggy »

I've done a search through this forum, and all I could find was some funny posts where people have threatened to bury moles alive!?!?

lol!

Anyway, my problem is, we have moles - not sure how many, but a couple at least.

What I want to know is, and I know this may get a few replies from people that like moles, but what's the best way people have found to get rid of them.

I've tried smoke bombs to coat the tunnels in castor oil, I'm currently trying scissor traps with not much success...

...the next form of attack is the tunnel trap.

I counted 52 molehills in a smallish area in our paddock, and now one is on our back lawn too, so it's not a case of them not doing much harm - I almost broke an ankle when my heel fell into a tunnel and twisted badly!

So...

...can anyone come up with a miraculous answer for me?!?

Sorry, Stiggy I couldn't resist.

I think you could make a fortune if you invented something to move them on.

I've heard of a gizmo giving of sound waves or something.

Sorry I can't help.

Poor moley +cry+

That's ok...

... it's only when you see the damage moles can do to your property.

People say to dig up the soil from mole hills for potting - but i've already moved 5 barrows of the soil now.

The amount of tunnels under the grass is getting to be stupid now - I drove my mower/tractor thing out there today and the front wheels were actually getting stuck in the holes in the ground - not good for working out there.

I just wondered if anyone had been successful with their fight against moles?

Expensive pest deterrents are available on 'concept research', google it. They are top quality, price but effective. We had cat one, Dad had cat and fox, I think.

Last time I looked, I think there was one for moles.

I think moles are cute - but then, I don't have them living in my garden :?

I agree moles are lovely. I have only seen one but it was dead. I don't know why but I was surprised it looked just like it did on TV.

I'm not really for killing anything but if your ankles and the legs & ankles of any pets or livestock you have are at risk (not to mention children) you have to do something.

Hope you get it sorted Stiggy (f+

Yes, that was the first line of attack I tried - didn't work at all.

The paddock is next to a fairly busy road, so a local guy said they'd be used to one of the so called sonic repellers. (they vibrate in the soil every 20 secs or so).

I'm looking at a humane trap next - maybe if I could catch it I could dispose of it/them - otherwise the only other option as I see it is something called the 'Dufus trap' which is meant to be the most efficient way of dealing with moles.

Oh I don't know - it's all a bit of a headache if I'm being honest!

I bet the Dufus is the one they used in the war? I saw them use one on "The Home Front"

I bet there is only one mole, Stiggy, if that helps.

They're very solitary and don't like other moles in their territory except when they're feeling romantic )sm(

Ive heard that those musical bithday cards repel moles but i would imagine you would need loads of em!! They vibrate and send of some sort of signal :?

I used to have ( pre-chickens) what were commonly known as 'mole plants' in my garden. So named as they are reputed to keep moles away.

Think they were some sort of euphorbia but looked a bit like a triffid - one tall stalk with leaves which then split into buds then they grew and split again. In the summer, if you were sitting in the garden, often you would hear little cracking sounds and the seed pods would explode and sometimes hit you!!

Perhaps that was what kept the moles away - coz I never had any problem with them (mind you, didn't before the mole plants either :-D )
