why did

Post by Dave »

last night at work i microwaved my curry
i zapped it 3 times for about
40 seconds each time
i had left it for about 15seconds between each zap as well

i removed the lid (which was just placed on top not sealing it)
picked up a metal spoon and i went to stir it
as i had already done twice before
as the spoon touched a piece of meat
it exploded
two people came over because of the bang
they thought the microwave had blown up(it was that loud)
my dinner had exploded all over me and the surrounding
cubical the microwave is in
my face was splattered with hot curry
and as i was looking forward to my tea
as i went to stir it i was all
wide eyed and happy
curry in the eyes is not good )gr:

so the question is why did my dinner go bang?????????

Hmmm. I know that happened to a jacket potato I was cooking a few weeks back, even though I had pricked it well. Must be the same reason. But sorry, don't know what! )sh

Is this a new terrorist threat, a cunning plan to whittle us down one by one, knowing the British love of curry?? )j;

Maybe the spoon hit a piece of chicken, the pressure would build up inside while its being microwaved and touching it casued it to explode. Never had quite such a dramatic event but have hard carrots and beans explode

Microwaving excites the molecules which is why food miraculously heats up. As food contains various molecules (protein, water, fat) they heat up differently, some faster than others. Water can get superheated and perhaps just touching the meat was like a catalyst, turning the water into instant steam which expanded rapidly bursting through the meat and maybe like a chain reaction other superheated food then just exploded.

Hope you are OK Dave !!

I know you have to be careful with reheating coffee etc. You have to stir it before taking a sip or it can boil up in your face.

Thought a curry would be ok as it was lumpy unless it was because you disturbed the sauce when you touched the chicken ???

Also a bit suprised as you didn't seem to have had it on for too long a time

That's it Dave. Your curry was so excited at the prospect of being eaten that it tried to jump into your mouth )grin2(
