Malt Extract & Cod Liver Oil..

Came across a jar of Malt Extract & Cod Liver oil today in H&B's, boy the taste sure brought memories flooding back of standing in front of mum when i was a kid, waiting for that tablespoon of elixir )eat( )t'

Minadex. I think that had orange in it. Not sure I've remembered the name correctly.

When I was a trawlerman we used to save all the cod livers in baskets and boil them for the oil,this would go into a tank and sold when we landed as a little bonus for the crew. We would often run a bit off while hot, into a cup to drink, so couldnt really get fresher then that.

Yep, I remember that too. It had an irony taste as well as the orange. Malt extract, like soft toffee. Any one remember Ovaltine tablets )eat( Oh yes, and Haliborange vitamin tabs!

I remember all those too! Does makes me think that those of born between the end WW II ans the ale sixties were the last really fit generation of kids.

Yes, I remember Minidex and Haliborange. Wonder if they still sell these. Used to like the taste of haliborange. Never had Malt, used to get a bit of syrup of figs sometimes yike*

and licking the spoon clean afterwards !.
My Mum couldn't afford it so it was only if I went to my friends that I had the lovely stuff.
