Ferrets -Colourblind??

Post by Chicken on the Hill »

Does anyone know if ferrets are colourblind or can see colour? Our Smelly Fred is an indoor ferret, so he's provided with a litter box. We had to improvise at first with a dish, but now I've got him a proper litter box and he hates it. Could it be he doesn't like the colour? It's pink. He poos round it, but not in it. It's fixed to the bars, but he keeps trying to drag it off. )de:

I have a friend with 5 ferrets I will ask her.
I wouldn't personally have thought he didn't like the pink colour. But you never know.

I asked my vet at work - she says that as far as she was aware they aren't colourblind. Only thing she could suggest was that something else has left 'scent' on cat litter tray that it doesn't like.

Not very helpful, I'm afraid. :?

Hello
Spoke to my friend yesterday and she said she had never heard of them not liking a colour.
She said to put some of their poop and urine from somewhere else, in the litter tray and that should get them to use it.
If they are just frightened of something new [unusual for a ferret] then when clean spead a little ferretmite on the inside and that should get them going inside.
