Well the saga continues. Clare took Lexi into vets this morning, he said he had been thinking about her last night and suggested that she be referred to a specialist in Herts a.s.a.p. He said he was concerned that the 'pyo' wasnt really pyo because there was not much puss that she leaked or the other vets found when they opened her up, also that the steroid injection he gave her on Fri evening would have stopped the joint pain/problem, so in his opinion there was something else going on inside. He said he didnt want to do lots of things to her, then have to refer her, said it wasnt fair on Lexi. Have got to admit she was a quivering wreck this morning. She has lost l.5kg in a week too, so not good. If she was a person I would describe her as drawn. They wanted her there tomorrow (Tues) but I couldnt make that as Terry is back at the Onocologist re his nose, so have booked her in for Weds 9.45a.m. I didnt want Clare driving for 2 hrs plus on her own either, so Weds it is. The consultation fee is £245 and we have to pay all the bill/bills up front even though she is insured with Petplan for 7k, but hey ho. She is not to have food after midnight on Tues and they will try and do whatever they need to on Weds, but she may have to stay in overnight, we will have to see what happens. The vets are Davies Veterinary Specialists Ltd, Herts and we will see a Dr Whitley who deals with all internal probs, cardiology and bloods. Please keep everything crossed, guys......I really cant believe this is happening, I really cant.
Lots of big from us and everything is crossed for Lexi on Wednesday

Thanks Wendy and Benny & Co, it is a nightmare, it really is. The breeder is besides herself as well, blaming herself, but I dont believe for one minute it is her fault.
I cant understand one, why she is still eating and two why she has the weight loss tbh. I personally think all this started off at 5 months when she had her first season, she has never seemed right since then, the look in her eyes speaks volumes......sorry that may seem a stupid thing to say, but to me her eyes tell it all. I really wish they could talk it would be soooo much easier.
No Gwen, you most certainly do not sound daft or stupid with what you can see in Lexi's eyes.
We all know and love our beloved pets and we know when something isn't right.
Really hope they can get to the bottom of what's going on and she can get better, bless her.
The fact she's eating, that's got to be a good sign hey?

Just thought I would update. Lexi has been sedated, although she wasnt too keen on it and they struggled to get the right combination of medication to allow them to take her bloods and do an ultra sound. The ultra sound showed her tummy was fuller with fluid than was to be expected considering she had not eaten since 6p.m. yesterday which could poss be an underlying bowel prob. The uterine stump was within acceptable levels, apparently thats the bit left after they had spayed her, so not that. She was still sensitive when sedated and they couldnt get a look at her ears and teeth, but did say that the brown staining on her teeth could be the blood she digested when cleaning up after her long seasons - blood = iron = stain. Tomorrow they will do hip xrays, put a camera up the vulva, an endoscopy, have a good look at her teeth and ears while out cold. They will ring us between 4 - 6p.m. with blood results and everything else they do tomorrow. So its sit and wait.......again!
Thanks for thinking of us - we are all having an early night here, I hope. Feel absolutely shattered.
Oh Gwen, hoping with all my heart they'll get to the bottom of what's going on with Lexi

Not good new. Vet rang and said the only good news was the vulva, it was calm, no blood/bleeding and from what he saw was healing nicely from the spaying. The blood tests showed the white blood cells were higher than they should be seconding the tummy had more fluid in it, which definitely means an inflammatory bowl problem, same as or similar to IBS, which will mean a total change of diet and they recommend Royal Canin dry, but with water on and start her on duck and rice/tapioca. When they did the endoscopy they took a couple of biopsies from the bowl and the results should be through by Tues/Wed next week. The ears are definitely showing inflammation and they recommend carrying on with the drops that we had already used for a week. Her hips were manipulated by the orthopaedic specialist and both sides showed hip dysplacia, one side worse than the other, but the orthopaedic specialist had to rush away, so he will examine the xrays more closely either later today or tomorrow. They did say that it is congenital, but cannot until we speak to the ortho specialist say if it is heredity or not. The only good news on the hips is that she has no sign of osteoarthritis in them as yet....... We cannot at this stage give her any pain relief for the hips until we have the bowel condition under control,. We can pick her up 10a.m. onwards tomorrow and either see the ortho specialist then or wait for his phone call later. Dont know what to think/say, just wished it wasnt happening to her. I forgot to ask about her teeth......mind was anywhere/everywhere, so much to take in.....
