Operation not in sight

Post by albertajune »

I'm feeling a bit fed up today as my second hip replacement is not yet in sight.
I was told by a consultant the December before last, that both hips needed replacing as I am at the moment considered disabled.
After much phoning, the first one was done last Sept and I was told that the second would follow about 3-4 mths later. I had a follow up appointment at the beginning of Feb and was told by the consultant that because I still can't walk far she would try and hurry it on. Physio says that I should be walking for at least 1/2hr a day straight off, not just pottering which I can't do. The new hip is also taking the stress of me walking bad.
Anyway, I won't waffle on, but have just phoned the hospital only to be told that my name is not yet to be seen on a list and that my surgeon is booked until June.
I have got used to living with pain and can take strong painkillers when really needed, but just want to get back to a normal life.

Just needed to get this moan off my chest, so thanks for reading.

June

Oh, poor you June - it's terrible when people have to live in pain - if animals were so neglected it would be considered cruelty. )ang

I do hope you get a date soon, then at least you will have something to work towards. {hug}

Oh June, you poor lamb {hug}

If they aren't going to be able to fit you in for the forseeable future, can they arrange for you to see a pain specialist? Just to see if there's anything else they could do to manage your pain, to enable you to get about a bit more.

I really feel for you - pain is so debilitating and wears you out {hug}

Awww June, thats not good. Keep checking at the hospital and make a nuisance of yourself. They did that to me once and left me off the list due to a clerical error.
Called me in for a pre-op before they had done tests for various things. I complained and got to the bottom of it and the error came to light. Got my surgery in the end 4 months later.
Chin up. thinking of you. {hug} {hug}

I have said that I will take a cancellation, however short notice, so I live in hope.
When I re-read my first letter, I do sound sorry for myself. I was just so fed up after coming off the phone to the hospital. It will get done in time and there are lots of people waiting like me, or I wouldn't be still waiting.

Thank you all for your words. {hug}

Aww June here's hoping something comes up for you soon..have you thought about writing to the consultant and asking about the difference in time span between the ops?
