Veggies

Post by lizziedoggarden »

I've started eating alot more veggies with chicken or fish (no carbs with this meal) as I'm trying to get healthier etc but I've found they are really making me bloated and I feel quite uncomfortable for about an hour..I realise it's most probably fibre but I wondered if anyone else found this? :-D

Sometimes it takes time for your body to adjust to a new eating regime. If it doesnt settle down of its own accord, try eating more slowly and chewing more thoroughly. If that doesnt work, then eat fewer at each sitting. You can always use raw veggies as snacks between meals so you have the same amount, but spread over a longer period.

We love our veggies here too Lizzie )t' Can't say I've noticed the symptoms you mention, but I'd go along with what Ruth says and hope it doesn't prevent you enjoying your meals :-D

I have to be careful with some of the veggies i eat too Lizzie cos they cause bloating :? I find vegies with fructose in like peas,carrot,swede,sweet potato can cause bloating so i have to be careful of those, :oops: Unfortunatly if it is fructose then you dont get used to it ,because it is a kind of intolerance {cry}

Sounds like it could be like what you are describing MM? It's carrots and peas that does it to me? They don't normally...but I am eating quite a bit more of them? +confused+

It is actually more likely to be a fructose malabsorbtion that allows you to eat a certain amount but once you cross your threshold you will have problems. I have to be wary of most fruits and veggies and am ok with a little but too much combined with lactose or wheat {cry} {cry} I have to stick to leafy veg really.A lovely roast turkey meal coming up with bread sauce and carrots and peas ,along with cream on my christmas pud {cry} {cry}

Indeed it is for omnivorous animals such as ourselves, we have evolved to eat whatever we can get. It would appear that we are unique amongst species insofar as we have evolved to eat cooked food, it is what had allowed us to develop big brains such as we have; our ancient ancestors apparently started using fire at least 250,000 years ago with evidence linking it back to as far as2 million years. I eat loads of vegetables, I do often get an after effect in the form of methane… or that could be the after effect of real ale…
