Why does a cold make you feel so rubbish?

Post by Mad Chick »

I know it's only a cold and I'm trying not to be a wimp about it but I feel really rubbish +cry+
My nose is red and the skin flaking off from blowing and wiping it constantly (and I'm using the expensive balmy tissues!) )gr: , I have a spot on my face from the excessive amounts of moisturiser I'm using to combat the flaking skin )gr: , I feel too rough to wash my hair so look like a mad old woman )gr: , the diet has gone to pot because I need comfort food (chocolate) to cheer me up )gr:, I can't stop coughing and sneezing )gr: and I'm getting NO sympathy from my kids who just think I'm being a spoil sport because I don't want 20,000 of their friends in the house while I'm poorly )gr: )gr:
Surely to God there MUST be a cure for the common cold by now? confused>

aaww Mad Chick hope you feel better soon.

A hot Toddy is just the thing (and get some rest if you can) it doesn't cure it but it helps it pass more quickly!!

Try using calendula powder or cream on your nose, it works wonders! There is also a cream you can get from the chemist called 'happy nose' this is good too but not as natural as calendula.

Hope you feel better soon :-D

Thanks for the advice :-D
I have had several hot toddies and am feeling a little better :oops: My mum used to give me hot milk with whiskey when I had a cold as a girl. I absolutely hated it and it totally put me off whiskey, even to the point where if hubby is having a glass of an evening he has to take it into another room as I hate the smell so much. But I persevered this evening and think I could get quite used to it :-D
Thanks yorkielass, I will try to get some calendula cream tomorrow or some Happy Nose - I could certainly do with a happier nose :-D

Lanolin is excellent for broken or chapped skin of any kind - and natural too
Waiting to welcome Sunny Clucker to Northern Ireland!

Think yourself lucky, I banged my foot a bit the other night that left me with a mild discomfort and tingling sensation for several minutes.

Feeling a lot better today :-D
I don't want to take any chances though so will have a few more hot toddies throughout the day :oops: :-D
It would be awful if this turns into wo-man-flu even though this is a much lesser ailment than man-flu. I just count myself so lucky that I'm not a man. Not sure I could cope with man-flu, it must be awful having to have someone else doing everything for you including wiping your nose :shock: )j;
