Totally Scrambled wrote:Everyone has heard of Golfing Widows but no one ever hears of us Quilting Widowers. You never hear us complaining, but that's usually because we can't be heard over the sewing machine. Wives disappear to quilt groups at least twice a week, then there's the quilt shows, workshops and assorted quilt group outings, not to mention the hours spent in the sewing room. Even on holiday there's no rest, as trips to every quilt shop within a 50 mile radius is visited, the internet having been consulted before departure. I've been to quilting shops all over Britain, Canada and the USA. To us poor blokes one bit of fabric looks much like another and cotton doesn't appear to serve a useful function as it's too thin to tie up bean poles etc. Quilts are made for all and sundry or just because the look nice or are a challenge. The wife's parents each got one, my mum got one, both our daughters got one and have I got my long ago promised patchwork underpants. NO! So spare a thought for us QWs with our aching backs from holding up quilts while they are checked for things we don't understand and the screams of "don't bring that in here" "mind my quilt" and "come quick and get this dog off" We are an oppressed bunch and badly need your support. Dom ps It's OK she won't see this for hours as she's setting up for the Quilt Show.
LOL...poor you!

Wow they are beautiful and what a lovely thing you can tie in what you enjoy doing with a cause that's so close to your heart.
Dom you do realise it doesn't matter when Ali sees your post don't you

Hello Manda, I think she found it mildly amusing, well at least I haven't got orders to build a kennel when I've finished all the chicken construction projects. Dom
Take no notice of him Ali. It is like my cross stitch. When i am long gone they will be around to remind people of you. Chicken coops, methinks, will not.... Wendy
Wendy, How very dare you. My chicken coop & run are a work of art to rival the Taj Mahal and Pyramids and have been built with the finest materials that will endure thoughout the centuries. Dom

I used to put it on and get told don't worry you will grow into it !!
Reminds me of this poem I wrote about my wife’s knitting.
PETER (aged five) to GRANDMA
Grandma! Can you knit me? A jumper that’s just right, The body not too long, The neck not too tight? I don’t want it to my knees - Or halfway up my chest, Should you stop about my waist? I think that would be best. But should you get it wrong And it doesn’t fit me right I’ll still love you grandma And kiss you every night.
Hi everyone, We've had a wonderful day at the quilt show, lots of laughter and a grand total of £879 raised so far. We're hoping tomorrow will be as well attended.
Dom won't need to build a kennel to live in, the extended chicken coop will be plenty big enough!
Wendy, I have a load of cross stitch stuff looking for a good home, books, linen, patterns etc, would it be any good to you? Having discovered quilting I don't have time for crossstitch and would love it to go to someone who could use it. PM me if you're interested.
Youre quilts are amazing Scrambled! I have tried making them myself (I have TONS of fabric) but I always give up! I did manage to finish one, but it went wrong right at the end and it was a nightmare trying to correct it I take my hat off to you! Well done!!
Thank you Ma, Our quilt show was a great success, it looks like we have raised around £1700 for our local hospice, I shall know the final amount tomorrow. It is so nice to be able to do something I enjoy and be able to help raise money for a good cause. Ali
Hi everyone, We've got the final total raised from our quilt show, a whopping £2025.18, needless to say we are all very pleased and the hospice is delighted. It was worth all the hard work. Alison
