Got a stave ready for carving now, about 5ft tall and with a little spalting. Does anyone know of a timber treatment I can use to stop rot which won't change the look of the wood too much? The stave is much too good to throw because of a little spalting
Hello Raven, I use Ronseal Multi-Purpose Wood Treatment, stops woodworm, prevents wet rot and insect attack. I got a 5 litre tin that cost about £15. I've only used it on seasoned pine and oak and at most it only turned the wood a shade darker which you only just notice if you have a piece of treated and untreated wood side by side and look hard. So far nothing I've treated with it has suffered any rotting or gnawing either indoors or out. You just put it on with a brush, couple of coats, and it dries quickly. They recommend soaking the wood in it if it's going to be subject to contact with wet ground for long periods. Hope this helps. Dom
