Fab embroideryFab embroideryI was in a charity shop a few weeks back and saw this embroidery for £10. It was in a horrible fame which only just squeezed it in, all wonky with a bit of white A4 cut (badly) as a mount.
It is all hand embroidered and I fell completely in love with it. I took it to a framing place and bought the 24" x 30"frame (a second, but made of wood) for £6. I then had the mount made...I paid for the expensive mount to be cut for it which was £13 (double normal) as I liked the colour. I had to leave it with them and it took 10 days. But when I picked it up........ how pleased was I!!!! It was difficult to photograph but I hope you can see how lovely it is and how much work has gone into it. Helen xx

Helping to give ex-battery hens a fresh start! http://thevintagebelles.blogspot.co.uk/ Re: Fab embroideryThe photos really don't do it justice - it really is beautiful and whoever took the many hours painstakingly cross stiching it, was very talented and patient. It is so good, that it really looks like a painting as opposed to needlework, until you get close up. The detail is amazing.
Having ordered the mount to be cut, I panicked a bit about the colour!! Rather like I did when I had my suite recovered in bright peacock blue! But when I saw it I knew it was perfect! The man in the framers was great (and extremely patient!!!). They were only supposed to cut the mount really for that price, and the embroidery was different heights and widths top and bottom! Hadn't been stretched or anything. When I picked it up, not only had the mount been done really well, but they had framed the whole thing for me, provided string, metal eyes for it to go in and drilled pilot holes for them too. How nice was that? Helen xx

I used to do cross stitch many years ago and you are right, the time that must have taken to stitch. I can only imagine that this found its way into a charity shop perhaps due to the person dying and somebody clearing out the possessions! I mean, can you hionestly imagine stitching a picture like that and then gvining it to a charity shop!!! Re: Fab embroideryThat is a sad thought that the maker had died. I had gone through the scenario of a lady painstakingly making it and her hubby saying he would frame it then making a pig's ear of it!
But coming to think of it, it may have been the same person doing the making and framing - easy to tell where the real talent lay. Shame. Helen xx

Re: Fab embroideryWow,that is beautiful. Can you imagine how long it must have taken to embroider that. A real labour of love.
Re: Fab embroideryThat is really lovely. I have always wanted to do something like that, but each time I have tried have made a real pigs ear of it!

Re: Fab embroideryIt's very beautiful, I'm sure it's an embroidery of a famous painting but for the life of me, I can't remember which one or who by. It looks so familiar...

Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut - Ernest Hemingway Re: Fab embroideryOddly enough, my youngest son came in 2 days ago and said 'Mum what is THAT!!! It's really horrible!', then my daughter came here yesterday and out of the blue said how much she loved it again!! I have told her she can have it when I die!
Oh well, if nothing else it's a talking point and I really still adore it anyway!!! BTW Lucy - no idea if it is a famous pic - not one I have seen I don't think, although it would seem probable to me. Helen xx
