Knitting socks!

Post by Mallard »

Does anybody knit socks any more? Apparently it's done on four needles? >coc<
My FB appeal with promises of a season of fresh allotment produce in return drew a blank!

50 years ago I used to visit a pensioner. Not sure what the idea was really, but at Keele there was a scheme where students could be paired with pensioners who they would visit.
When we first visited she used to knit good socks, but over the 4 years her eyesight or mental powers deteriorated and I was given one with a toe at both ends and several-half turned heels along the way.
My sister 'bagged' it to use as a childrens sermon (how you need to follow a pattern in life, or something).

The best I got to in knitting was blanket squares and strippy vests for black babies.

Yay go Froggy )c( )c(

My mum's recently started knitting again and she mentioned using four needles for something, but I'm not sure what it was she was making >dum<

Recently a friend asked me to refurbish a brightly coloured jacket for her. The cuffs had gone totally, and due to her failing eyesight she was unable to re-knit them. Out came my Grannie's knitting needles, and I couldn't even remember how to cast on with them! In the end I knitted a welt and joined it up! I used to knit socks years and years ago, and fingerless mits as well, but just stick to jumpers now.

Hope you get sorted Mallard.

you can get some lovely striped yarn for making socks nowadays I don't make them very often as they're a bit fiddly but they're fun to make.

)t' :-D PM me for expenses etc. Are you close enough for free veg? If not I'm happy to pay. It's socks for my allotment boots I'm after, so colour doesn't matter.

)wav( Hi Mallard,
Just thought I'd post quickly to say that I haven't forgotten about you - two friends of ours had early babies over Christmas, so your socks were pushed down my knit-list. I started yesterday though, so they should be done by next weekend )t'
