I'm a Harry Potter fan (books more than the films) but I have a Harry Potter Knitting Book - I just love it.

The instructions are American and need a little translation but not too challenging. A lot of the patterns are on double ended pins so all knitting, round and tround and round!

I've made house elf hats for my niece and some brill socks. There are tiny initialled jumpers for hanging on the Christmas Tree.

If you don't do HP, you won't have a clue what I'm on about - sorry!

Hi, does anyone know if these be knitted using Double Knitting wool or do you need a specially treated yarn?

I've found free online patterns but most are American so i'm not familiar with the wools they mention.

I got a direct translation of what the american wool weights mean, I just googled it. I couldn't open onto anything from your post, so I can't check for you.

Lust been to a shop near me that has 'Knituesdays'.
Lots of lovely stuff (very expensive) but i'm now thinking of my next project. Currently reknitting a scarf for my sis, was meant to be a christmas present but it fell to pieces when washed!!

Lots to learn!

But also finding it benifical for not snacking in the evening!!

My daughter got a knitting doll in her stocking. I remember having something similar when I was a girl (old cotton real with pins stuck in the top!). Couldn't get the hang of it then and still can't
Goodness only knows what I'd be like with 'proper' knitting! You lot are very clever :-D

There's a good knitting website called ravelry.com - it takes a few days to become a member. It's got everything on there, including a comparison between sizes and weights of both wool and knitting needles for US and UK sizes, and metric and imperial.

I knit ! :-D
Have done for as long as I can remember.
My children all had knitted outfits in the 60's, it was really 'cool' then, I knitted dresses, trouser suits, ponchos, sweaters, hats gloves and scarves, coats, jackets, in fact anything :-D
I think it's a shame that knitting has such a 'bad press' when it really is such a productive hobby - and so frugal too !

Any handknit garments that have worn on the sleeves or have just been outgrown, I unpick, steam the 'crinkles' out of the wool and use up again - free sweaters !
When this can't be done anymore when the yarn has lost it's elasticity, I use it for place mats, draught excluders and scarves.

Why don't men like the sound of clicking needles, I find it very relaxing, much more so than listening to noisy football fans cheering when a goal is scored ~eep~

There are stories of my great granny knitting so fast her needles were blurred.
