What are we doing to the earth?

There is an interesting article in the New Scientist about 9 ways humans are endangering the planet and the ecosystem we need.
Global Warming is one, but others are less talked about.
They seem fairly hopeful about the Ozone layer, less so about the others.
Since politicians can only think about 1 thing at once and they have 2 problems on their mind at the moment
1. the next election
2. the economy
what hope is there that they will take action on all these 9 fronts?

There are lots of extras to our wasteful existence. Don’t be fooled by bans on fridge gasses, we still use them although not to the levels of the eighties. Reductions in carbon footprints are IMO being treated by many nations in the same way that Japan treats the ban on commercial whaling. The ultra rich few are friends of many of our leaders and have financed many election campaigns; I suppose the lure of joining the club is just too irresistible. You only have to look at where some ex- prime ministers and Mr presidents chose to holiday and which oil magnates own them to realise that gold means more than grass. Just my opinion by the way but I am seriously worried about what our children will be left with.
