Questions/comments on VolunteeringRe: Questions/comments on Volunteering
Re: Questions/comments on VolunteeringHi - As a newbie to this rescue work I would like to ask, what happens to the poorly hens that come out of these farms (broken legs, EYP or infections)?
You hear stories how these hens can come out with injuries and it made me think how you deal with them or what you do with them.
Re: Questions/comments on VolunteeringI believe one of the rehomers take them for their own but not sure.. Perchy will know
She'll see this and reply Don't dream it, BE it....
Am looking forward to welcoming Sunny Clucker to Woodbridge Suffolk!!!!! Re: Questions/comments on VolunteeringHello Twinkletoes and welcome to the forum, I am by no means an expert, but from what I have seen and done, any hens that come out of the sheds obviously unwell are put in seperate crates and assessed whilst the rescue is going on, we actually brought a poorly hen home with us to give her a chance, she had one eye and was very very quiet she still has one eye but is as bright as a button. I really do believe that no hen would be left to suffer, those with more experience would take them and assess at home, I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong
Willow one eye on rescue day Willow one eye now
Re: Questions/comments on Volunteering And how happy does she look now, Well done for nursing her back to health Perchy thank god for people like you! And rightly so no animal deserves that kind of suffering!

Re: Questions/comments on Volunteering
Re: Questions/comments on VolunteeringHiya,
As one of the main organisers of these rehomings, I take all the poorly hens home with me, they all get checked over at a qualified avian vets and once they are better, they all go to a smallholding to live out in complete freedom with fields, paddock, muck heap (which is where they spend most of their time) and huge barn full of straw bales. If I come back as a poorly chook, its certainly the place that I would like to live. Thank you. Taz xxxx Helping to give ex-battery hens a fresh start.....
www.freshstartforhens.co.uk Re: Questions/comments on VolunteeringI was wondering if you need anymore drivers ? i work as a gardener and have an escort van which is clean and tidy.
As the gardening season is coming to a close i could lend a hand i guess, im based in coventry. As a driver what would be involved for me ? (and also although this may sound a silly question is the cost of fuel covered?) Paul. Re: Questions/comments on VolunteeringThats good news, in that case im happy to help :)
