What a result! who would believe that a group of nutty chicken huggers could pull off something so fantastical as rescuing and rehoming 2000 hens >ch< )t' but with Taz at the helm and so many wonderful people from all walks of life who just so happen to share the same belief that is 'a hen's right to freedom' it just goes to show that anything is possible if people pull together{hug}

I am very proud to be a part of a wonderful group of people {hug} :-D :-D

A stirling effort from one and all but I would like to add a huge thankyou and well done to Taz and Steve, there are many late nights and hours of planning etc that many of us don't get to see.
So Taz, you got the next one sorted yet? )j; {hug}

A massive thank you from me too for all the hard work done by our many wonderful voluteers.. and of course to the hundreds of rehomers without whom this would not be possible at all.. thank you again and bless you all on behalf of the little batties who are now breathing fresh air and finding out what its like to be a real chicken!!! {hug&kiss}

Hiya,

All hens that are not well enough to rehome come with me and get treatment with a vet.
There is a lady in my area who has stables and lots of land and her best friend is a vet who calls in weekly for coffee and to check the horses and chickens. This vet was going to be visiting on Monday just gone so I took the hens to this farm on Saturday evening.
There were 2 hens with suspected Ascites (waterbelly) 1 with a cut on the foot, and 1 with a definite limp. I will be giving the lady a call this evening to see what the outcome was for those hens and will update you later.
The place where they live is totally free range and there are a couple of Mr Chickens to protect them.
This is also the place where a battery hens egg was hatched by a bantam hen, and a battery hen who went broody a few weeks back and hatched a bantam egg. :-D Pics are on my facebook but I will start a thread in chicken keeping and post them there for you all to see. The battery chick is very very pretty. {hug}

Thank you

Taz

Hiya,

Finally got hold of the lady at the farm, she says the waterbelly hens are on a course of antibiotics although the vet doesnt think they will help but is giving it a try as they are not as bad as some she has seen in the past. The foot injury has been treated and will heal ok. The limping lady just needs time and she too will be just fine. )t'

Fresh Start For Hens never leave any poorly hens behind, they always come with me or Greta and recieve appropriate vetinary care.
