So sad

Post by sazchops »

I have a beautiful bluebelle girl, who is 12 months old, she lays reliably. However she has been top hen and reinforses this by feather pecking my other girls, I have tried everything to stop her but in a flock of 5 she has the upper hand. She is a lovely chook who maybe needs more space.
If you can offer her a new home, please get in touch.

What is it with Bluebells ? A couple of weeks ago Ellie was seriously thinking hers may have to be rehomed, though that seems resolved thank goodness, my bluebell is the one with constant sour crop and now you feel you have to part with yours ? Sorry you have had to make the decision Saz , hope the problems solved for you soon {hug}

If you were near Norfolk I would ask if I could add her to my flock of 20.

I already have 3 bluebelles in my flock - my top chooks are my three ex-battery hens who keep all the other girls in order.

I would but my Bluebell is head hen and wouldn't want to upset the balance. Couldn't you separate her for a while? Knock her down the pecking order a bit?

Have you tried some chicken phsycology on her?

When she pecks feathers hold her firmly to the ground - and then with you finger nail gently tap her beak for about a minute - this reinforces you are the top chook - I do this to my disruptive girls - reinforces I'm in charge and castigates them for their naughty behaviour and tells them I won't tolerate it. Might work for you?
