Silkie x pekin bantam cockerels need new homes

Post by iris »

Hi,
This may be a common story for many new backyard chicken farmers such as us.
We finally moved out of the big smoke and got ourselves a nice garden big enough to keep chickens which we had wanted to get for some time.

Our first batch of chickens were all meant to be females but as they have grown over the last couple of months it has become apparent that we have 4 cockerals and only 3 hens. They were born in January so are coming up to 6 months of age. One of the cockerals looks to be a pure silkie variety, pure white, and is stunning. The other 3 are probably "pilkies", a mix of pekin bantams and silkie. They all have their own personalities and have been great to have around but for obvious reasons we cannot keep this many cockerels.

They have now just starting crowing and mating and the 3 hens unfortunately are not enough for them. I supsect they will start fighting internally soon as well so the happy chicken coop in our back garden is about to break out in war.

So before any chickens get hurt as nature takes it course, we would be very grateful if anyone knows of any people/charities/farms/rescue centers who could help us re-home these lovely cockerels. I have been unsuccessful in finding anything thus far.

They are vaccinated and recently wormed.

We are based in Bedfordshire and would be prepared to deliver them somewhere (within reasonable limits).
