What about the old radio programmes
Housewives Choice and there was a bit for people overseas hosted by Jean Metcalfe
Uncle Max
Round the Horn
Navy Lark
Desert Island discs with Roy Plumley
Meet the Huggetts Cathleen Harrison and Jack Warner
Friday night is music night
Mrs Dales Diary and the Archers
Womans Hour and the afternoon play
And who remembers tuning in on the little portable radio for Radio Luxembourg.

Radio Luxembourg was listened to in the best room as that was the only place you could get reception but the fire was never lit in there so we listened snuggled in blankets. Maggie do you remember how to spell Keynsham {rofwl}
Loved the radio during Sunday morning through to afternoon.
Two way family favourites ( was the theme tune 'with a song in my heart?)
Billy Cottons Band Show
Life with the Lyons

And listening to plays or adaptations of maybe Dickens novels, always done with the lights off in the gloom of a winter afternoon.

Two way family favourites did have a bit for forces posted overseas BFPO40 I seem to recall and every so often they would link up with somewhere like Gibralter for 20 mins or so. The start of real technology I guess.
And I remember Listen with Mother way before Watch with Mother and it was still Rag Tag and Bobtail

I never missed DICK BARTON SPECIAL AGENT, with his sidekick Snowy
Was terrified but wouldn't miss THE MAN IN BLACK. I was glued to the radio and then couldn't sleep.
I am now a widow and live with my memories.

Journey into Space - my brother and I were addicts. Our living room light switch was outside the door, and my father's idea of fun was to suddenly plunge us into darkness.

I loved Woman's Hour, Mrs Dales Diary, The Archers, and later Waggoners Walk.

Can't remember the name of the show but I think it was Kenneth Williams whose lines was "my name is Sid Mincing and I am the owner of this emporium". My flatmate and I found it most entertaining.

I used to listen Journey into Space with my big sister. The whole series was on radio 4plus not long ago and it's still worth listening to! :-D

My next-door neigbour used to record Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy for us kids on his reel-to-reel tape recorder. Thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard.

Sunday afternoons with pick of the pops with Alan freeman. Kenneth Williams as rambling Sid Rumpo, ( one for the splod upon my rod, hiding my cord-wangle ). And who could forget Saturday morning children's favourites with uncle Mac, playing songs like The ballad of Davy Crockett, big John and the deck of cards. Ah an age of innocence. Cheers me dears............ )wav(

Oh yes, I'm sure that it was rambling Sid, who used to say Cheerio me deario.......... )wav(
