which is the most energy efficient
which is the most energy efficientHi guys
i wonder if anyone can help me decide which is the best form of heating now that the frost has come to croyden lol. the thing is with the price of gas going into orbit. im looking to buy an alternative heater. i was looking at a oil filled 2kw heater from argos at around £80 . basically are they cost effective or do they cost a fortune per hr to run. im currently using a calor gas heater and the bottles of gas have gone up to £33 a bottle. and last only a few weeks . i know when i looked at the fridges and cookers in the past they have like a colour coded energy bar across the bottom when u purchase them to give a sense of how efficient they are. but i dont trust this from the manufacturer. and reviews i always take with a pinch of salt as it seems there written by the people selling there own products. i know logs are the cheapest form of fuel readily available. but would rather trust members that have knowledge and insight to what im asking. so plz let me know what ur opinions are. regards steve
Re: which is the most energy efficientI use a halogen heater and on min it costs 2.5p an hour, on max 5p an hour..so thats pretty good to me..they are bright to look at but costs outweigh the bad bits!
My cost £20.00 from Q and D Don't dream it, BE it....
Am looking forward to welcoming Sunny Clucker to Woodbridge Suffolk!!!!! Re: which is the most energy efficientI suppose the only way to truly tell would be to find out how much your energy company are charging you per KW per hour. You would also need to know how many hours the gas lasts in a bottle for the 33 pounds.
Once you have the hours the gas lasts then times those hours by KW charge per hour (x2 as the heater is 2KW) and it will give you an idea of which is cheaper to run the gas or oil heater....I think ¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨)✰

Re: which is the most energy efficientMorning Steve,
If it's electric then you need to find out how much you are paying per unit of leccy and then use that figure to work out how much it will cost to run the appliance per hour. I think a 2Kw rating uses 2 Kw per hour so it's a pretty simple sum to do. Probably stated the bleeding obvious there. Sorry Dom Ali Woks My World
Re: which is the most energy efficientAge Concern did a calculation for my Mum about four years ago, when she was deciding whether to use her calor gas heater rather than an electric fire. They told her that calor was the most expensive form of heating and not particularly healthy either. I have no idea how the price of calor gas has gone up in relation the electric over the past few years though.
Sunny Clucker welcome in Barnsley.
Re: which is the most energy efficientI suspect that buying a new heater might cost more than the savings unless the costs stay the same relative to each other.
But if gas prices have gone up other prices will follow. The other consideration is, how big is your house, how many rooms do you use, is it better to heat it all with the central heating or just the one you are in/ are going to be in? Only you can work out the cost / comfort balance. Dance caller. http://mo-dance-caller.blogspot.co.uk/p/what-i-do.html
Sunny Clucker enjoyed Folk music and song in mid-Cheshire Re: which is the most energy efficientIt might be cheaper to stuff a hot water bottle down your trousers.

Smile and the whole world smiles with you
Re: which is the most energy efficientFirstly gas is still cheaper than leccy.
Portable gas space heaters like you mention are not a good plan for anyone..... Check this out peeps. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ds-newsxml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Basically you need the ventilation from outside the size of a barn door - to prevent emission of CO, which silently kills.
Re: which is the most energy efficient
are you going to heat up the water on the gas hob or in a kettle? Bah Humbug
Re: which is the most energy efficientThe downside to Calor gas or indeed any form of Butane gas heating is that a 15kg bottle produces 10 gallons of condensation. Yes, you read that right, 10 gallons of condensation.
Mike Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.
Re: which is the most energy efficient
that's what happens when you burn hydrocarbons, the hydrogen combines with the oxygen from the air and produces water. Bah Humbug
Re: which is the most energy efficient
On the gas because Steve says it's cheaper Ilona
Re: which is the most energy efficient
I do it in the microwave to save a couple of Bob Bah Humbug
Re: which is the most energy efficientDepends on the efficiency of the appliance though........
