But I am thinking the answer may be 'Japanese wood' Helen xx

Re: Japanese Saws?A Japanese saw works on the pull stroke rather than the push. Apparently they cut quicker and finer than a Western saw so less effort is needed when sawing the wood.

They are really good, and a good adition to your tool kit. As you know they have quite a few teeth to the inch so ideal for a very fine acurate clean cut.
Dont ever grow up, its a trap
Re: Japanese Saws?Toby has several they are very quick..most arbs use them because they are light. You just have to be really careful because they are very sharp and getting used to the pull action is unusual to begin with (I know because I nearly took my finger off with one!!).
Silky / ARS are a good makeS..depending on how much you want to spend. ¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨)✰

Re: Japanese Saws? Thanks for the replies
I believe they work best cutting with the handle low rather than high. Is that right or doesn't it matter much which way you saw with them? Dom Ali Woks My World
Re: Japanese Saws?Toby not here at the mo but I don't think it matters (I'll ask him whe he's back) ....very important though ...just don't push down when you're sawing you don't put pressure on the blade.

Re: Japanese Saws?My Dad has got a couple, as Manda said they are good for accurate stuff. My Dad’s ones have got a straight handle on them, a bit like a kitchen knife. The teeth have a steeper rake angle and are razor sharp to give the cut but it only works on the pulling stroke due to the way the arm articulates; if you had the cutting action the other way around you’d be in danger of digging in and snapping teeth off.
Anyway My Dad used his a lot when he made their dining table and chairs and having used them a couple of time myself they are nice to have. Bah Humbug
Re: Japanese Saws? There is an American guy called Alan little he has a blog called askwoodman and he covers Japanese saws quite extensively. Cheerio me deario.......

Re: Japanese Saws?I've just realised ...are you talking for woodwork or tree work?
