I think that it has been a rather odd year for some plants, what with the really hot weather early on and then the endless rain. My geraniums haven't grown as well as they usually do, neither have my begonias.

do you mean the bright showy ones that you get each year that go in pots , not cranesbill that are perennial and grow like weeds ?
I have some pink and red ones in a border that havent budges an inch - at least they havent died - even though they are getting a granular feed but the 1/2 dozen I have in pots are doing better and at least are attempting to flower , they are getting those honeycomb shaped granular do da's that you push into the compost so maybe the feeding is more intense.
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

Mine are in pots and I've used water crystals for the first time.. I'm wondering if they don't agree with the plants?

I was just thinking about mine today. I bought some as very young plants which were potted on. Some are so good and bushy, others hardly grown at all and all been treated the same. Strange!!

I have some I bought when small and others later. All are doing well. Sorry Lizzie, that's not much help is it?

Geraniums have been the only bedding plant we've had trouble with this year too. I did a hanging basket and put 2 in the centre and although they grew a bit, they didn't flower and they didn't grow tall enough to be seen over the other flowers. In the end I pulled them out and replaced them with a lovely new geranium that already had some flowers on it. Once the flowers had gone no more grew, which was odd as it was still June and they normally flower all through the Summer. Only good thing about this new one is that it has very pretty foliage. I thought it was just me having no luck with them this year :?

Yes, it has def been an odd year for some plants. Everyone on my allotment has had poor rhubarb this year - it normally grows like a weed!
