lets start a caring group (holiday hen-care)

Post by musicdaz73 »

Hi guys
I am just thinking about something SANDY mentioned in the forum (holidays)
about when we we go off on our hols, now i live in derbyshire in a small village near Ripley (Lower Hartshay) if someone with chooks lived near by i would be willing to look after them.
that got me thinking of starting up a care and share scheme for our loved ones (the girls) it would obviously be where we all live where a fellow hen lover could look in on yours and likewise etc.WHAT DO YOU THINK???
If anyone is interested in being involved let me know and we can get something up and running.

Regards

Darren J

I think it's a fantastic idea, we have something simular to that here (Leeds) and so far it's working very well. I wish you all the best in your venture.

Sounds like a good idea.
If people can help others out, why not ?

Now that is a difficult one before you start.
You could put it in chitter chatter, but you really want it somewhere, where all chicken keepers will read. I suppose the only place would be where you are now...in chicken keeping.
When you read the heading of the others it doesn't seem to fit does it. ?

In case people didn't want to put their exact location on open forum (and the dates they would be leaving them unoccupied), maybe it would be a good idea to have a co-ordinator for each region, then people could sign up with him/her, saying how far they would be prepared to travel and it could all be done by pm.
I think the snag is likely to be distance. The people who live near enough probably know each other all ready.

I've changed the title of the thread, so that no-one misses it by thinking it's about crying on each other's shoulders.

I am going to state the obvious here !!.

If you are going to let someone help out.
First .private mail rather than give out address etc. on an open forum.

Second. make absolutely sure you have met the person and found out if things are all OK.

You know what I am saying, just because someone is a member of DTL doesn't necessarily mean they are honest. This is in no way a slight on anyone, but we have to be careful with our precious chooks and our homes.

Im currently in North Lincolnshire (Scunthorpe) and would like to get involved in this..

I have a neighbour who has chooks, but I have never spoken to them before... I only know they have chooks cos I can see them in the garden!

We are moving to Llanelli, South Wales, in the near future, so anyone who has chooks in the Swansea area........... ?!

Great idea you have there Daz, but I do agree with Wendy PM each other, it is not about the honest folk on DTL, forums do get watched by some folk up to no good shall we say. PM's would ensure things from a security point of view.

Good luck with the scheme. )t'
