Are my chickens more stupid than yours?

Post by dogcatcher »

Tonight the little darlings (that wasn't what I was calling them earlier) were all hanging around in the run and wouldn't go to bed. It's red mites I thought, damn red mites, but no, it wasn't mites, it was an empty ice cream pot that I use for their corn. It had blown in front of the pop hole and no-one dared go past this dangerous object.
Why do I end up with the stupidest hens in the world?

"Bed?", what`s that my girls ask.

We are going to stay out till really late, frustrating `er-indoors who wants to lock us in safe for the night.

So what if Margo got `er up at 4.40 am by making so much noise she woke up and thought a fox must have been in the garden. )de:

We laugh in the face of ice-cream pots, but the broom . . . that`s another thing )t'

LOL, I've just put my dirty stop up in too. Bit of squabbling tonight ... :?

They knocked over their feeder trough sometime this afternoon. I think stupid, they think smart - all over the floor now so easier to get to! :)

Tennis balls, mine hate tennis balls....not ordinary tennis balls, just red ones.
The kids play in the garden with the girls wandering about and occasionally a tennis ball rolls in front of the girls.

Nothing, not one flicker.....but make it a red tennis ball and they go mental attacking it! Katie goes completely off her trolley protecting the chicks from the nasty red ball.

It is funny wayching 4 of them attack the ball though with my lad trying to get it back off them!

I wonder why they object to red tennis balls!!?! Have you got any theories?
I can't think of anything which resembles a red tennis ball which would offend them! :?

Yep, they can spot a grain of rice at 50 paces but something out of place is against the chicken rule, whatever they are. One of them knocked a coffee can full of feed over one day and they all stood back 3 feet staring. The moment I removed the can they were on the food (wild bird seed) and it was gone in a heartbeat. This is the same can they jump at, every evening. confused>

I’ll pluck a lettuce and cut it into 4 and as I approach the run with it in my hand, they all make a mad dash for the coop. Once the lettuce is in the run they all come running out to eat it.
