A new take on the plastic coop.

Post by AL37 »

My mums silky has just hatched four chicks, the other hens were a bit to interested in them so we decided Dotty and her chicks should have a home all to them selves. As luck would have it a neighbor of my mum was throwing away an old wendy house, So after I secured and sealed the windows, attached a floor, cut a pop hole and made a run to attach to the front of it as well as a few other bit and pieces Dotty is one happy mum.
Oh and my mum is also a happy mum. :-D

Fabulous. My little boy was upset today because I told him that he wouldn't be able to use the chicken coop as a play house - my two littlies have been in and out all day long - they can even squeeze through the pop hole {rofwl}

Thanks for the nice comments. One thing we did after the pics were taken is surround it all with paving stones. )t'

Jannie, they are reasonabley easy to convert. the hardest part was probably the floor. I used a composite roofing sheet ut to size but a decent piece of thick ply wood would do just as good.
I have put a wanted on my local freegle site. If I get a few I may convert them and pass them on in the trading post here. :-D

It looks fantastic Al. A palace for the ladies )c(
You can often find wendy houses like that on freecycle and it's something hubs suggested a while back. I laughed at his suggestion and said it was a ridiculous idea. Looks like I owe him an apology :oops:

What did you seal the windows with?

The one next to the door has the plastic that was cut from the pop hole screwed on from the inside and sealed with silicone from the outside. The rest have ply wood cut to size and again attached to the back of the shutters from the inside. The shutters themselves were the screwed to the plastic above top and bottom, then sealed with silicone again from the outside. The two shutters that are open in the pics now have a latch to keep them closed. The hole behind them is covered with weld mesh from the inside.
