We've had our chooks for three years now.
When I was younger though I lived on a farm and we had 15,000 as well as other livestock.

About 3.5 years I think, though we had around 1 month with 4 cockerels (thanks to Simon) 8 years ago & I spent 9 years of my childhood helping Dad look after hens.
Sarah.
Mum to 1 hubby, 4 children, 3 Springer Spaniels (Max, Millie & Buttons), 2 cats (Sox & Frankie), 2 rabbits (Crunchie & Munchie), 12 chickens (Target, Speckle, Barbara, Margot, EggieII, Gomez, Sparkle, Glitter, Wednesday & Isabel), 3 geese (Lister, Smeg & Camille) & 4 ducks (Soup, Anya, Marble & Vindaloo).

I've now clocked up an impressive 42 hours! When do I step away from the hens and do something?

When you get bored with watching them. So assuming you don't get any more hens that could be four years or more from now )t'
