Update as requested - Mycoplasma

Post by Freeranger »

I asked for help recently for a very poorly chook and was asked to provide an update. Unfortunately she died, and we had another - displaying similar signs - put to sleep yesterday. It was a respiratory infection, probably Mycoplasma. The vet has given us ABs to treat the rest of the flock, and we realise that a few months ago we also lost our little cockerel to it as well. The symptoms aren't that obvious. They just became very weak and stopped eating, and were breathing through their beaks. There was no bubbling, crackling or any other noisy sound of infection. We didn't recognise the symptoms from anything we read. Please be alert to it.

Aww am sorry to hear you have lost a couple of ladies, they really do hide alot until they are very unwell, thank you for the update, I guess we all need to be vigilant, I hope the AB's will help the others and hopefully prevent a spread.

Same as what Percy {hug&kiss} said.
These Cluckies certainly keep us on our toes.
No problem can withstand the power of continuous thought.

Sorry, but I seem to have put this in the wrong place - maybe someone could move it to Chicken Keeping for me? Thanks.

Thanks for your kind comments. All the rationalising you can do doesn't always help, but long distance hugs always make a difference.
