Egg shell colours.
Egg shell colours. My 6 Black Rocks now about 6 months old have been laying nice brown eggs - but I now get a white one each day, tastes just the same so its not a problem, but is it usuall for shell colours to change.

mine lay four different coloured eggs.
they vary from brown to almost white....like a creamy colour! each colour comes from a different chook so i know who laid it by the colour of their eggs! maybe one of yours has just started laying or feels like a change of scenery :P shes just being a girl and keeping you on your feet....thats what us girls do  Or maybe it's Aggie, sneaking in to confuse everyone.
Mine are varied in colour, so I can usually tell from the colour (and shape) which hen has laid. But sometimes the eggs are paler than other times; if the eggshells are thinner they may be paler, if they've not laid for a while they may have more pigment. I can't tell who has laid what. Well I couldn't. Now I don't get too many from the oldies . The new girls are the same colour also.

If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning eggie stuffI can tell all of my girls eggs by colour shape & size, & only one lays in the proper nest box, one doesn't know what eggs are, so I only have 4 a day to give a birth certificate to, but they should go by the colour of their ears, white ears = white eggs, brown ears = brown eggs, why yours are changing colour from day to day, who knows

mel x People will think you're daft looking at chickens ear colours.

My black rocks also occasionally lay a single white egg.. but I have noticed that the egg is either rough to touch or is slightly thinner.. the very thin eggs mine have produced are all brown though

My pekins lay me lovely white eggs. Wednesday pops out some larger ones than Nelly, who lays every day (she's a good girl!) but Daisy hasn't started laying yet, shes just taking her time. But I can tell who's laid what by size and texture. Wednesday's are much smoother than Nelly's. I love my chooks!

...Ever the optimist! Egg shell colours.Hi Gwenoakes
http://www.madsci.org/posts/archives/ap ... .Zo.r.html For a 'novice' that is a very good question - I didn't know that mind you I have only been keeping them for 2 years. I shall inspect them all when I go out to feed them! Anna Re: Egg shell colours.
So shall I when I go to look for eggs. I can't imagine it though They are under the feathers, just to the back of the eye. Looks like there is a bit of wattle over it. But I don't think that is anything to do with it. Not a very good description though. Just a hole in the head really.
