frankii is ruffled by delphines presence he had been a grump all day ive kept her seperate from the big girls today and where everyone could see each other i didnt like the way she was lying alone in the coop last night so tonight i have popped her in the big girls coop,he has slept with his girls alone so long im not sure he can accept anyone in with them i popped her in a first and the racket was terrible he was really upset so i took her out and it stopped immediatley ,my big girls didnt bat an eyelid when i popped her in she will be nice and warm snuggled down in there ,im beginning to think one of my babies is a cockerel dont know why just got that funny feeling one much bigger than the other, combs same no difference yet in feather shape they eat alot and poo alot and do silly skittish things run around like mad and then flop down and snooze they are lovely babies and it is going to be sunny this weekend so if it is warm enough i will put their cage out onto the garden and let them have some fresh air and sunshine for an hour or so ,i will get more photos too and see what you guys think ,im hoping to get delphine more settled now poppy has gine home she is doing fine her owner let me know today bless her ,they had to spend most of the day in the run today as i was a long time in the hospital only managed a couple of hours they were very good though and i had full compliment of eggs today ,marilyn laid a huge one i will photograph and weigh tomoz its the biggest i have had from my girls a real whopper grabbed a little cuddle with her and delphine before they went to bed but Prila was perched on the edge of frankii house fast asleep when i went to shut them up for the night she was popped on the floor half asleep and wandered in the pop hole i think she was caught out as the sky went very dark quickly and the rain started and i had turned off the coop light ,silly ace ,so my plans for delphine to sleep in with frankii and eventually my 2 black rocks were going to go in with the exbatts n marilyn have been scuppered ,i will have to plan other things ,i have a very large coop that pegpuss gave me that is out in the wire Walk-in-Run completley undercover and bone dry etc but i would have liked it if everyone was in the wooden coop in their housing all under one roof but it seems not ,they have ideas different to mine ,it is and 8 bird ark but i dont want them to be too hot in the summer mine all sleep on the floor and ignore the 2 nest boxes it has so i have plenty of time to rethink Delphine is my priority right now i want her settled and part of the flock so this weekend is the perfect opportunity ,if they go near her she squaks very loudly and sets off running and then they wonder what it is and give chase ,she is like lightning but she is a stunning bird ill just get her settled and then it will be only a few weeks before i have to do it all over again with Lana and Boudica ,what do i put myself through

Ace, chickens never sleep, chill, play, perch or socialise the way we plan. Your story of how you keep adapting to their determined little ways is so striking a chord. I'm on about plan 72 with keeping my 2 mini flocks safely and happily accommodated. And certainly not there yet!

well today the babies had a half hour in the sunshine which they enjoyed until the wind ruffled their fluffy bloomers and made them charge around like lunatics so back inside they went to eat drink and sleep.

delphine has had a couple of one hour stints integrating with the others and when shes had enough takes herslef off to the little pen and snuggles up in her washing bowl full of hay and settles down in there ,and as it her choie to go in i close the door i think she feels safe in there and she eats and drinks quite happily and then takes herself off to laze in the warmth and dustbathe on the floor ,she is a little darling but such a dram queen when the others walk by she zooms off making a funny little high noise and whips the girls into a frenzy and then they arent sure what is happening and who they are chasing poor little girls ,frankii ignores her but he was far less grumpy today when it was just him and his girls eating together when they came out of his house.

the big girls didnt notice delphine at all but i expeted her to take herself off with the big girls tonight as she had integration time at twilight agin with just the big girls ,frankii took him and his girls off to bed early as if to say "you lot have the newbies ,not us" ,but no she went into the little bunny hutch, i keep just in case i need a hospital coop , settled down and there she is ,the silkie has chosen to sleep alone !!

she is the solo residence of the studio apartment she obviously doesnt like sharing so we shall see if she prefers the little hutch is she does it is not a problem she can stay there it is warm and dry and if sleeping alone is her choice that is fine by me .

maybe it is sorting itself out and i should leave well alone ,i have a feeling i am now only needed to fill up the feed and water containers and they have done the rest .poor ace maybe i am redundant

Aw Ace i cant ever see you redundant theres to many needy girls in this world for that
Our tiny little Faith always sleeps alone in the massionette or penthouse cupboard unless the odd time Sasha gets in with her, but she never goes in with the others so i would'nt worry you know what they are like

when little delphine plays in the garden she is camoflaged when in the dirt we will have to be very careful











it is like a game of wheres wally until she comes out onto the grass



and has it only been two weeks since little prila joined me it seems like she has been here forever ,shes a confident little hen and has flocked beautifully




she even led a game of "ive got the worm,now chase me "




and just for lyn she obliged with a lovley fluffy bloomer shot



whilst marilyn and the others played at "lets help golfy feed the pigeons ...."


you never know there might be a bit of spare corn thrown to us poor starving hungry little girls



and finally the babies in their cage in the sun ,i have been given a larger cage by a good friend and whilst they were in the old one sunbathing i threw away all the old bedding etc and prepared the new one it is larger and they have more space to play ,im really beginning to think i have a little boy on my hands ,get ready big al what do you guys think ????????/

Ace thanks so much for your lovely messages, I have sent you a pm just now I have to state the obvious, Delphine is absolutely gorgeous She is such a photogenic girlie too. I just love the photo of the three of them turning their backs You are a lucky girl having helpers(is golf husband shy?) al you are lovley i think it is a little boy too ,i shall leave him here for a while to keep my other baby company i dont want her to be lonely ,at the moment al s/he is called Boudica we might have to change it to Bang and then you only need a Wallop to complete the trio

how is crash you havent posted his pic ,i hope he is tucked up safely in his little sleeping box INDOORS and that you have snuggled him up in his warm flanelette pyjamas and given him a hot water bottle

ask big al he hatched her from a little egg ,its his baby really ,he is an ace silkie daddy ,i think this lovely guy has a talent for breeding beautiful hens and if ever he decides to go into business i would love to be employed by him ,we chat for ages on the phone neither of us ever has any minutes left

i can recommend him as a silkie breeder if ever you want one BM :):)
