I've got the wood......I've got the wood......I've got the wood, now what?
Just broken up three huge pallets, and along with some other pieces recovered from various skips I have this pile... There is loads more in the garage, all sizes, all free, some from work, flat pieces, long pieces. There isn't enough for a shed, so it will have to be something smaller, must have a look round for ideas. Ilona Re: I've got the wood......Wow...I'm so pathetic, I was all ready to do stuff with pallets as there is always a supply where I live, but I'm not strong enough Honestly I was absolutely worn out just trying to separate one piece of wood! Anyway despite my inadequacies in the strength department-I look forward to seeing what you're going to make from this lot-well done you.
When is a chicken not a chicken?....when its a battery hen!
Re: I've got the wood......
You come round to my house and build some stuff for my veg patch! Helen xx
3 children, 3 grandchildren, 3 chooks, 3 fish, a shrimp that thinks its a prawn and a dappy dog. http://www.acountrygrandma.blogspot.com Re: I've got the wood......Right, got my idea from a catalogue, I will make something usefull that I need. It will be for inside the house, and will be varnished.
Step 1. Cut four pieces of wood 29" long by 3" wide. Try and cut them without any nail holes or blemishes. Smooth them with electric sander. The length has to fit in a space. Cut two batons 1.25" square by 12" long. This wood is not from a pallet but I got it free from work. Step 2. Lay the wood out and shuffle it around untill you find the best order to give them a tight fit together. Make sure you pick the best sides for the top. Turn them over keeping them in the same order, and mark the underside with a pencil the positions for the batons. They need to be .75" in from the edge. Find eight screws the same and screw the wood, from the top down, to the batons, one screw for each end. Make sure they are all in a neat row and go through the centre of the batons. It makes a flat piece 29" x 12". This is the top. More to follow. Ilona Re: I've got the wood......Next cut four pieces from a large pallet, 30" x 4". I used the long six foot pallets and cut two pieces from two slats, avoiding the nail holes. Sand them smooth. Then cut six more batons 12" long, the same as the first two.
I will screw these together tomorrow, didn't have much time today due to dog sitting. I could do with picking up another six foot pallet, but if I can't get one I could use the wood I have and change the design. But, I might wait till I get the pallet because it would be a shame to make do, when the finished piece would be a whole lot better with the exact size wood. I only have basic tools, no electric saw, so I can only cut wood across, not down the length of it. Ilona
Re: I've got the wood......I’m still holding my breath.......so how’s it going as I’m turning blue around the mouth and don’t know how much longer I can hold out.
Bah Humbug
Re: I've got the wood......Next screw the pieces together like so...
The distances between the batons doesn't have to be exactly the same, but the two pieces must be matching. I have found another pallet at the back of Wicksy's Pad, so now I can complete it to my original plan. I also found a massive sheet of hardboard and some more lengths of usefull size wood, for my next project, ha ha. Ilona
Re: I've got the wood..............to be continued LOL
The suspense is killing me. Honestly, I've got no idea what you are making. Any hints? Slave to 3 children, 1 Greyhound, 1 Cat, 4 rescued hens and a very patient hubby x

It's looking quite good, all measured accurately to fit a space. I am doing it step by step in case Richard wants to use it elsewhere on the site, that's if it's good enough.

The trouble with having a really good sleep is, you're not awake to enjoy it!
Re: I've got the wood......I’ve not worked out what you’re making.
It’s a large money box, so that you have somewhere to put all the cash you save from being frugal. Yes! No! Re: I've got the wood......The last six pieces. 27.5" x 4". Got to sand them, then screw into place.
I'm not posting any more pics till it is varnished and finished. Ilona Re: I've got the wood......Wow I'm impressed.
A hen crate .............. no I'm in suspenders................ no wrong forum joke Re: I've got the wood......I've had to stop my right arm is aching and I've got blisters on my right hand from all the sawing and screwing in of the screws.
