free range marketing
free range marketingI noticed in son-of-morris the other day that their budget brand scotch eggs were proudly boasting that they contained free range eggs. Fantastic news I thought, they are starting to get the ethical message. Reading the packaging it appears that it may not be all god news; yes the eggs are as they so proudly claimed are free range, but there was no mention of the origin of the pork surround or whether or not it was free range. The upshot is that your free range egg could be surrounded by pig from crates. I suspect that the reasoning behind the bold free range lettering was more to do with marketing and therefore profit than any real concern for animal welfare. I could be very wrong but feel that if the pig was free range that the packaging would be shouting this at the consumer.

Re: free range marketing A bit of advertising licence it seems doesn't it ?

If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Re: free range marketingI think you're right, they shout from the rooftops the bits they think you want to hear, and forget to tell you the bad bits. Definately a marketing ploy I would say.
Ilona Re: free range marketingI got caught out last year - bought some gammon with UK on it in tsco, and when I got it home, found it was only packed in the UK - produce of EU.
You can imagine which was in the bigger letters.... Helen xx

Which is good because our welfare standards are better than EU. I look for the red tractor logo. Dance caller. http://mo-dance-caller.blogspot.co.uk/p/what-i-do.html

Re: free range marketingSon-of Mr. & Mrs. Morris go to great lengths to advertise the fact that all their fresh meat is British, and to be honest I have had found no reason to question this. It is when you get down to processed products that you have to be careful, I always check that all the meat produce is British and not just packed in Britain and I do look for the tractor and union flag logo.
