Self-provisioned dinnerSelf-provisioned dinnerI'm afraid there is no way of saying this without coming across as rather smug, but for dinner today we had a Spannish omlette and salad, the ingredients consisting of:-
Eggs - laid by our good ladies Red onion, garlic, moolie, tomatoes, courgette, beetroot, lettuce, cucumber, spring onion - all home grown Mushrooms - picked from the the verge the other side of our front hedge The only bought in items were salt, pepper and olive oil.
You have every right to feel smug. Well done.

That's not smug. For weeks now we have sat down to our meals consisting of all the vegetables from the garden - we have between 5-8 different ones at each meal. I must admit I buy meat and fish but sometimes its as you say spanish omelette's. ooooo- look at you AnnaB!!!!!
Well, if I had to live on what's in my garden, it'd be eggs and lettuce most days!!! At least I'd lose some weight though! My peppers have only just started to flower ( and now it's cold - and they were fine last year)!! My tomatoes (tumbling toms) have only just got tomatoes and they're green! I've just picked 2 corn cobs - which are fine though. Things haven't grown so well this year - except lettuce. My strawberries were fine aswell.... No doubt the egg laying will soon cease until the spring - back to searching for some that cost loads and don't taste half as nice!!!! We've been swapping eggs for wood pigeon though. I'm a veggie, but my husband has been getting freshly shot pigeon - which is good, as the animals are wild, and not shut up in a cage. The man who shoots them wanted to show me how to get the breast - ooo by pullin the wings off!!! I don't think so - I'll leave that to my hubby who eats meat!! Small steps lead to big changes
Most of our veggies and fruit are home grown at the moment (I think I have some peas in the freezer, but the Bird's Eye bag is easier to find)
But I'm buying bread, milk, butter, cheese meat and the ingredients for all the home-made cakes, so quite a way to go. However I had a tin of £1 coins from my end of the lane fruit stall which bought our fish and chips etc. while we were at Bromyard Folk Festival this weekend. Self-provisioned dinnerWell done Mo
Its nice to 'earn' some money from the garden. We haven't got enough to sell (except eggs) and its now mostly in the freezer. |
