And then there were 3!!!...
And then there were 3!!!...Came out to find one of my light sussex girls dead in the coop this morning!. No obvious signs there was any problems!, she was eating and drinking ok, her vent etc was clean and she was a good weight!, so have no idea, maybe just her time! .
Virtually the same for one of my black tails a few weeks ago!, so down to three girls now from the original six.... I am old and wise, because I was young and stupid!.

Hens are funny little things arnt they, some are tough little cookies who seem to survive one illnes or problem after another. Others survive the horrors of the cages, but then some girls who are completly well anf healthy like yous just go suddenly. My freind who has about 30girls lost several recently some through age but a couple of younger seemingly healthy girls, and allthough she was upset she said at least they didnt suffer illness and pain Lindaxx And then there was one, Again!!!!

Re: And then there were 3!!!...It's happened to me a couple of times, too. Sometimes I feel as though they do me the ultimate favour of quietly slipping away rather than forcing me to take a difficult decision.
Providing there has been no obvious suffering beforehand, and clearly there wasn't, it seems like a blessed way to go. Bea; 19 hens (most of whom I intended to get); 6 bantams (which I never intended to have); old Benji dog and young Toby dog (who I definitely wanted). Three years into country living and loving it.

Re: And then there were 3!!!...That is very sad :( just a thought, you deffo dont have redmite do you? I have known it kill just like this?
Re: And then there were 3!!!...
No!, no red mite, I always check the coop and nest boxes, she showed no signs of any problems as I check the girls when I let them out each morning!, and as previously said eating and drinking normally and wormed! I am old and wise, because I was young and stupid!.
